Maintenance Service Technician
Job Description
DQ Power Equipment is seeking young, energetic individuals who enjoy traveling and want to be part of a growing team. This role involves installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing power and distribution transformers. The Field Engineer helps ensure the safe and efficient operation of high-voltage electrical equipment across a variety of settings, including substations, power plants (including solar and wind farms), and industrial facilities.
Daily Responsibilities
Daily duties vary and typically involve a combination of mechanical and electrical tasks, including:
- Installation and Assembly: Assembling new transformers, including the installation of radiators, bushings, fuses, and control cabinets.
- Maintenance: Performing routine inspections, oil sampling and processing (degassing, filtering, filling), and re-gasketing to prevent leaks and ensure optimal performance.
- Testing and Diagnostics: Conducting electrical tests (e.g., Megger, Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR), and power factor testing) using specialized equipment to diagnose faults and verify operational integrity.
- Repair and Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving complex electrical and mechanical issues, repairing or replacing damaged components, and modifying procedures to improve performance.
- Documentation and Reporting: Preparing detailed service reports, maintenance records, and test results for compliance and customer review.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to strict safety standards and protocols, including OSHA and NFPA 70E requirements, when working with high-voltage equipment.
- Customer Interaction: Serving as the on-site point of contact, providing clear communication and technical support to customers.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A college degree is preferred. An Associate degree in a technical field (e.g., electrical engineering, automation) or completion of a technical or apprenticeship program is also preferred.
- Work Authorization: Must have valid authorization to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship (H-1B) is not available.
Work Environment and Schedule
This role requires frequent travel to customer sites, substations, and power plants, with exposure to varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, noise). The work can be physically demanding and may involve lifting heavy components and working in confined spaces. Occasional non-standard schedules, including nights, weekends, and overtime, may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Full-Time Position: Starting salary of $50,000 per year, with a 10% increase in the second year and performance-based raises thereafter.
- Part-Time Position: $25 per hour, with overtime pay.
- Training: All necessary training is provided to ensure success in the role.
- Travel: All travel expenses are covered, with per diem provided for meals and incidentals.
- Benefits (Full-Time): Paid time off and eligibility to earn United Airlines flight status (up to 1,000 qualifying miles per year), plus frequent flyer miles to support personal travel.
