We do this with our global, fully remote team who are addressing the climate crisis with cutting-edge science and scalable digital tools to measure soil health and ecosystems.
We work with farmers, landowners, corporations, and policymakers to deliver data they can trust - transforming land stewardship through the credible, scalable measurement of soil organic carbon (SOC) and other ecosystem indicators.
Our team of 30 includes leading scientists, technologists, and strategists across 5 continents. Our Founder is Prof. Jacqueline McGlade, former Chief Scientist at the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Position Overview
We are looking for a marketing leader, who is passionate about the food, fibre & agriculture industry to own Downforce’s marketing function and drive our growth.
This role is suited to someone who can set a clear vision and direction while ensuring attention to detail in execution. They will develop our marketing strategy with clear priorities and measures of success on which audiences to reach, with the appropriate message in the right channels.
The successful candidate will have bring their prior knowledge to communicate clearly the main topics in the nature-based solutions climate reporting industry. That might mean having experience in environmental policy, science communication, regenerative agriculture or food & fibre supply chains.
They will be confident using & adapting modern tools to track and report on the impact of marketing activities on sales across stages.
This is a remote role, ideally based in the UK, with the opportunity to meet and work alongside the team at co-working spaces in London.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing and Commercial Strategy
- Develop and own Downforce’s marketing strategy, aligned to company objectives set by leadership
- Develop commercial strategy through customer and competitive analysis
- Define marketing priorities, target audiences, and channel focus to support commercial marketing plans and campaigns.
- Lead the relaunch of the Downforce website
Marketing Execution and Delivery
- Own execution of marketing activity across priority channels, direct into targeted accounts, the Downforce website and LinkedIn
- Own marketing operations and reporting, track and report on marketing activity using agreed KPIs and performance metrics, and adjust activity accordingly
- Create clear, engaging written content including case studies, project summaries, event announcements, newsletters and news updates
- Translate complex scientific and technical material into accessible content for non-technical audiences in collaboration with the science team
- Produce or coordinate the delivery of visual marketing assets, in collaboration with the Creative Lead, such as slides, graphics, and social content using tools such as Canva or Figma
Direction, Prioritisation and Collaboration
- Set marketing priorities and plans in alignment with company objectives and leadership direction
- Work together with the commercial team to track overall business performance against the commercial strategy
- Collaborate with scientists and commercial colleagues to source and develop content aligned to active projects and partnerships
- Maintain brand consistency, tone of voice, and messaging across all external materials
Team and Capability
- This role will build the future marketing capability of the team, including management of internal, contract and agency resources
- Own the development of practical marketing processes and workflows that support reliable delivery
Qualifications
Required
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex ideas
- Proven experience producing content for public or professional audiences
- Prior experience in climate, nature, agriculture or sustainability, ideally in a start-up environment
Preferred
- Design capability using tools such as Canva or Figma
- Experience producing long form content, thought leadership or website content for a professional brand
- Technical proficiency in linking marketing activities to lead tracking using CRM tools and content performance analytics
