About the role The Utility Operator is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the ash handling and metal recovery equipment in the Residue Storage and Processing Building area. In this role, you will perform routine operations and inspections of the residue and metal recovery equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Daily operation of the bottom ash transfer conveyors, ash silos, fly ash transfer screws, pugmills, ferrous magnet, ECS conveyor and associated equipment.
- Perform daily routine inspections of assigned equipment and fill out daily log sheets.
- Participate in boiler cleanings.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment related to ash removal and conditioning and an orderly clean work area.
- Perform lockout and tag out of equipment in support of maintenance activities.
- Complete scheduled assigned Operator Qualifications Standards.
- Drive mobile equipment such as forklifts.
- GED/HS Diploma preferred
Reworld offers GED Works - a fully funded program for employees to achieve their GED. - Forklift driving experience a plus.
- Three to six months of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Formal technical or apprentice training is desirable, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak and communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees of the organization.
- This position works on a rotating 12-hour shift including nights, weekends and some holidays. Overtime will be required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Frequently exposed to high temperatures and outside weather conditions.
- Working near moving machinery as well as noisy and dusty environments; must be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) including a negative pressure respirator in accordance with OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.134.
- Climbing ladders and structures; must be able to tolerate heights.
- Frequently required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
