This mechanism offers countries the opportunity to cooperate in the field of climate action by financing climate protection projects and transferring their emission reduction results internationally.The project currently supports Ethiopia and South Africa.
In addition, regional activities are planned at the sub-regional level in Africa.
The focus is on implementation-oriented capacity building relating to Article 6.
The countries are supported in establishing the necessary institutional arrangements – including regulations, processes, instruments and platforms.
Furthermore, networks for the exchange of experience are being established.
This enables informed decision-making by political actors and strengthens the integrity of implementation.
It also promotes the achievement of NDCs and increases climate ambition in the partner countries.In addition to country-level activities, the BMZ is supported in advancing cooperation and coordination with and within the EU regarding Article 6.
The aim is to enhance the integrity of the Article 6 mechanism and its impact on sustainable development.
Capacity-building in the countries and regions and the work within the EU are intended to reinforce one another.The project is part of the Climate Programme – under which close coordination and cooperation with the Climate Sector Project and the BMZ's own initiative, Contribution Claims, is envisaged.Your tasksDuring your internship with the A6C global project, you will gain insights into the team's day-to-day work.
The project is in its first year of implementation and you will assist with a wide range of varied tasks.Your Responsibilities Will Include, Amongst Other ThingsCompiling and summarising a daily overview of the latest news on carbon markets and related topicsConducting specialist research on climate policy issues and drafting brief updates, analyses, talking points, speech drafts and strategy papersSupporting the BMZ's advisory work on carbon markets, including setting priorities and defining the BMZ's positionSupporting the work of colleagues in partner countriesSupporting the BMZ's positioning within a framework of stronger European coordinationSupporting the production of publications and information materials on Germany's engagement with carbon markets; where necessary, preparing background information and speech contributions, and assisting with the preparation of eventsOrganisational support for the project, e.

through the preparation and follow-up of workshops, working meetings and webinars; preparation of presentations, participation in and minute-taking at internal and external meetings and eventsSupport with communication tasksSupport with knowledge management and reportingYour ProfileEssentialYou are in your third semester or above (preferably on a Master's programme) in a relevant discipline related to climate change, climate policy and/or development cooperation, or international cooperationYou have gained practical experience through relevant work placements or part-time jobs, preferably abroadYou have a good basic understanding of climate change and international climate policyGeneral knowledge of development cooperation, experience in developing countries (e. g. through studies or travel) and/or knowledge of German development cooperation would be an advantageYou possess analytical thinking skills, a structured approach to work, good process management skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and, in particular, the ability to present relevant information concisely and preciselyGood knowledge of standard MS Office programmes and collaborative tools such as MS Teams is requiredYou enjoy taking the initiative and working independently, even under time pressureYou can express yourself confidently in English, both verbally and in writingDesirableBasic knowledge of topics such as national and international carbon markets, greenhouse gas mitigation, the development and implementation of NDCs, climate finance, and/or international climate negotiations is an advantageYou have some experience in public relations, particularly in managing social media accounts and effective communicationYou are interested in the project's gender workA good command of German is desirable; knowledge of other languages, particularly French, is an advantageNotesGIZ is a signatory of the Diversity Charter.
