Project Background
The Solar in Rural Areas (SiRA) module under the energy cluster of Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) India is aimed at improving livelihood options for rural women through solarisation of agricultural activities. SiRA is a bilateral technical cooperation measure between the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. It is being implemented pan-India with a focus on the East and North-East of India (specifically the federal states of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha), over a period of three years (October 2024- September 2027).
The technical assistance would cater to the twin goals of the Government of India in terms of elimination of diesel use in rural areas and improving income for farmers. The project is expected to improve access to data to make informed, gender-responsive policy choices on the promotion of decentralised renewable energy solutions. It will also contribute to the capacity building by service providers and to enhance access to improved financial products to improve livelihood choices for agriculture farmers, farmer cooperatives with focus on women. Selected Intern's Day-to-day Responsibilities Include
- Assist in implementing project activities related to gender-responsive design of state schemes/ programmes to promote decentralised renewable energy in rural areas, including for example conducting background research, review of existing policies and programmes, stakeholder consultations, and contributing to reports, briefings, and background papers
- Assist in designing, developing and documenting successful case studies under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme for knowledge sharing among larger stakeholders, including supporting advanced documentation methods for such studies.
- Support Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) activities, such as documenting the annual progress of project activities, survey design, data collection and analysis and development of monitoring plans.
- Support communication and knowledge product development for the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Deutsche Gesellschaft f r Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), including design of reports, presentations, and visual materials.
- Support the project team in additional operational tasks to meet project objectives, such as organising workshops, preparing minutes and presentations, conducting secondary research, and assisting in various project management activities.
