Job Description
Would you like to work in a friendly and encouraging team and contribute to the UK's ambitious climate change goals? If so, we are looking for motivated individuals to support the team's goals to develop and strengthen the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Emissions Trading is an integral part of the Government's plan to deliver our ambitious net zero goals.
The Emissions Trading team delivers the UK ETS, which launched on 1st January 2021. This is the UK's cap and trade policy, which limits emissions in covered sectors and, through pricing those emissions, incentivises planning for and investment in decarbonisation and the transition to a net zero economy. It is an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful role in the development, implementation and evolution of this flagship scheme, supporting delivery of net zero. We are working at pace to expand the UK ETS to cover more sectors of the economy, increasing the ambition and effectiveness of the scheme.
This is an incredibly exciting and important time to join the team, as we work with counterparts in the European Commission to link the UK and EU ETS. This is part of wider negotiations between the European Commission and the UK to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The work is diverse and high priority – the team will need to influence international policy representing the UK’s interests, understanding and delivering what our stakeholders need, collaborating across UK Government and devolved governments and drawing on the expertise of the UK’s Mission to the EU. We have an ambitious delivery timeline to achieve our commitments, and are looking for motivated individuals to join the team at this critical time.
The UK ETS is a large, complex, multi-decade programme with priorities that change over time. All team members may be asked to work on different areas of UK ETS policy over time in accordance with business needs, their skills and experience, and individuals’ development goals.
