The Department


Dentons' Environment and Safety team is a market leading team advising across all areas of Environment and ESG, Climate Change, Sustainability, Health and Safety and product regulation.


The team serves a prestigious client base including large multinationals such as bp, Amazon, BASF, and Virgin Atlantic, as well as private equity and institutional investor clients. The team also advises HM Government departments including DESNZ, Defra and the Official Receiver. The team offers an exciting mix of work covering transactional and advisory work as well as contentious matters including regulatory and criminal defence work.


The Environment team is highly ranked in Chambers, Legal 500 and Lexology, and is widely regarded as one of the top tier environment practices in the country.


The team sits within a wider Regulatory and Investigations group in the Disputes Division of Dentons.


The Role


We are looking for an enthusiastic lawyer to join the Environment team to serve an increase in workload.


Drawing upon the industry knowledge and strength of our international practice, you will gain unparalleled experience and play a fundamental role in building the practice. You can expect a varied workload with lots of responsibility and opportunity to build your own client relationships. The team's current case load includes advisory work on new legislation such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, regulatory work including environmental and health and safety prosecutions and inquests, as well as transactional work on large complex cross border transactions.


This is an exciting and challenging role and an excellent opportunity for an associate, who is passionate about progressing their career within a global firm and in supporting the ongoing growth of the practice.


You will develop your skill set to build and maintain client relationships and contribute to business development and thought leadership at an earlier stage than most firms, raising the profile of the team and firm externally.


Required experience, skills, and attributes


Technical skills


  • English law legal knowledge gained within a top-tier city firm.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Exceptional drafting skills and legal research ability.
  • Experience and knowledge in at least some of the following:
  • Environmental law;
  • ESG and sustainability;
  • Health and Safety;
  • Human rights and social compliance;
  • Non financial reporting and disclosure;
  • Climate change and carbon trading;
  • Product regulation.
