Assistant General Manager

About the Role:
The Assistant General Manager (North Carolina Compost Facilities) plays a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and strategic growth within the Southeast Division. This position is responsible for supporting the General Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, and fostering a high-performance culture across multiple locations. This role demands a strong focus on financial management, team leadership, and customer satisfaction to achieve divisional targets. The Assistant General Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, optimize resources, and enhance overall efficiency. Ultimately, this position is critical in sustaining competitive advantage and delivering consistent business results in the Southeast Division.
The Assistant General Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, monitoring and documenting employee performance, providing feedback, enforcing company policies, and supporting the organization's overall objectives in safety, efficiency, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management

  • Ensure employee safety within all areas of responsibility
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment
  • Provide leadership and motivation to achieve company goals

Financial Management

* Develop and manage monthly and annual P&L budgets
* Meet or exceed all budgetary goals and financial targets

Operations Management

* Oversee all day-to-day operational activities
* Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines

Leadership

  • Communicate clear direction and company objectives to team members
  • Provide tools, training, and support for teams to achieve success
  • Set, track, and evaluate short- and long-term performance goals

Team Development

* Support ongoing employee training and professional development
* Maintain appropriate team structure and staffing levels

Other

* Perform other duties as needed to ensure successful management of responsibilities

Experience & Education

* Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years in operations management
  • Minimum 5 years of P&L responsibility
  • Experience in trucking and/or environmental services preferred

* Education:

* High school diploma or equivalent required
* Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) preferred

Work Environment

* Work involves both office and outdoor environments
* Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and odors may occur

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged sitting or standing
  • Frequent use of computers and phones
  • May be exposed to outdoor conditions during inspections of operations

Travel

* Occasional travel required based on operational needs

Additional Requirements

* This is a safety-sensitive position requiring focus, sound judgment, and personal responsibility for one's safety and the safety of others
