About the role:
Come be a part of a team passionate about creating the very best off-board power electronics products focusing on energy infrastructure equipment. As a Failure Analysis Engineer you will lead the local analysis of RMA units for offboard V2X equipment by performing diagnostic testing, identifying root causes of failures, and coordinating with customers and internal engineering teams to resolve issues. You will be responsible for technical analysis of returned units, testing, generating preliminary analysis, and driving corrective actions to improve product reliability and customer satisfaction. This position is full-time based in Plymouth, MI
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and track returned V2X charging systems through the RMA process
- Perform electrical, functional, and environmental testing to diagnose failures
- Conduct detailed failure analysis on equipment, control boards, and mechanical assemblies
- Document findings and generate RMA analysis reports for internal, global teams and customers
- Work directly with customers and local teams to gather failure data and operational conditions
- Lead local root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action investigations
- Collaborate with global design, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve product issues and improve reliability
- Maintain RMA databases, failure statistics, and trend analysis to identify recurring issues
- Support confirmation testing of RMA units to help identify Root Cause Analysis.
- Recommend design, manufacturing, or process improvements based on failure analysis results
- Assist in corrective actions or reworks planning and oversight by coordinating with 3rd parties and customers
- Conduct electrical hands-on work in lab and in customer sites when necessary.
- Support regular RMA meetings with customers and global design teams.
Develop local product test capabilities and conduct test in a local engineering lab.
Minium Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related engineering field
- Minimum 3 years of design or applications engineering experience with power electronic products and/or utility grid applications.
- At least 2 years of hands‑on electronics instrumentation/lab experience preferred.
- Experience with high-voltage systems, power converters, or EV charging infrastructure
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with electrical DC and US AC Grid systems.
- Experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, HV supplies, electronic loads, Chroma ATS equipment, NI DAQ, etc.)
- Ability to analyze schematics, system architecture, and firmware interactions
- Experience writing clear technical reports and communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with EV V2X charging systems and/or Energy Storage and PVI power electronics
- Familiarity with US Grid including Residential Electrical Service (120V/240V).
- Familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies (8D, Fishbone, FMEA)
- Experience working with RMAs, field returns, or reliability engineering
- Knowledge of safety practices for high-voltage systems (>400 V) and US AC Grid systems
