Position’s purpose:

The purpose of this position is to perform failure mode analysis (FMA) on defective products returned from customers.


Part of the organization:

FMA Engineer reports to the FMA Supervisor


Duties and Responsibilities:

Under moderate supervision, performs the following:

  • Monitors active work list and perform failure analysis on Delta products.
  • Responsible for performing advanced Failure Analysis on a wide assortment of electronics. The analysis includes research of the failure history, verification of the failure, isolation of the failure and determination of the failure mechanism.
  • Writing detailed failure analysis report.
  • Perform bench level electrical verification/fault isolation on integrated circuits to determine root cause of failure.
  • Isolate failures for accurate identification of defect locations.
  • Working with R&D to find determine root cause.
  • Engaging with suppliers and 3rd party lab to determine root cause.
  • Working in a team environment and provide consultation for non-F/A disciplines.
  • Provide technical support and interface with repair technicians as needed.
  • Responsible for handling other job-related duties as needed.
  • Enters information on all completed work in Delta’s ERP systems.


Minimum Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, or a related field; Or Equivalent years’ experience in a related field.
  • Master’s degree or 0-1 years’ experience in failure analysis of electronic equipment’s is a plus.
  • Experience in failure analysis, fault isolation techniques, and ability to clearly document it.
  • Experience working with design Engineers or working on telecom or datacom equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with failure analysis methodology to derive a root-cause diagnosis of failure.
  • Previous experience with soldering and repair of electronic circuits is required.
  • Previous experience using schematics and drawings to troubleshoot electronic circuits is required.
  • Experience working with rectifier circuitry preferred.
  • Quick adaptation to learning new software tools is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Circuit analysis, bench level equipment skills, and report writing.
  • Ability to work using schematic diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or layouts to perform testing and trouble-shooting functions.
  • Must become proficient in a variety of failure analysis techniques and equipment operation.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions.
  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery.
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interrupt-driven, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential relationships.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software to include MS Office (Word and Excel) and e-mail.
  • Software knowledge in C++ is a plus.


Physical Requirements:

This position requires long periods of sitting behind a workbench, using tools and test equipment and performing tasks on a computer. Good vision. Additional physical requirements include standing, bending, hand dexterity, seeing, ability to distinguish colors, lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs. Position may also require travel on a domestic or international basis.
