Key Responsibilities

About the role:

The EV Charger Firmware FAE acts as the technical liaison between customers, sales, PM, R&D, and service teams, focusing on software, firmware, and system ‑ level behavior of EV charging solutions. This role supports customer deployments, diagnoses field software issues, and ensures successful integration with backend platforms and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide firmware and system ‑ level technical support for EV charging products.
  • Support customers during pre ‑ sales and post ‑ sales phases with software architecture explanations, feature clarification, and integration guidance.
  • Assist with charger commissioning, configuration, and debugging in field or lab environments.
  • Troubleshot issues related to:
    • Firmware behavior
    • Charger state machines
    • Charging sessions
    • Communication faults
  • Analyze system logs, traces, and protocol traffic to identify root causes.
  • Support and troubleshoot OCPP (1.6 / 2.0.1) communication with CSMS platforms.
  • Assist customers with CSMS integration.
  • Work closely with firmware, backend, hardware, and service teams to resolve issues and drive fixes.
  • Support software release validation, regression testing, and hotfix verification.
  • Assist in regulatory and compliance activities related to firmware (CTEP/NTEP, metrology software controls, cybersecurity considerations).
  • Provide feedback from the field to R&D for product improvement and roadmap planning.
  • Create and maintain firmware ‑ related documentation, including configuration guides and troubleshooting notes.
  • Support pilot deployments, customer trials, and escalations.
  • Travel to customer sites as required (typically 30–50%).
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, firmware engineering, or software FAE roles.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems and firmware behavior.
  • Experience with EV charging systems or other networked embedded products.
  • Familiarity with:
  • Linux ‑ based embedded systems.
  • Firmware update mechanisms
  • Log analysis and debugging tools.
  • Ability to read and understand basic hardware schematics and system block diagrams.
  • Strong analytical, problem ‑ solving, and customer communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex software and system‑level concepts to customers, including non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with OCCP protocols.
  • Experience with EV charging standards and behavior:
  • ISO 15118
  • CCS / NACS charging flows.
  • Understanding of cloud connectivity, device provisioning, and security concepts (certificates, authentication).
  • Basic scripting or programming experience (Python, C/C++, Bash).
  • Experience supporting field deployments and customer escalations.
