Specification Sales Engineer – Delta Breez (Residential & Light Commercial IAQ)
Delta Breez (Indoor Air Quality Solutions Division)
Location: Remote (U.S.) – California, National Territory with regional travel as needed
Delta Breez, a leader in energy-efficient ventilation and indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions, is seeking a Specification Sales Engineer to spearhead our new “spec-in” engineer strategy. In this high-impact, growth-focused role, you will combine technical expertise with relationship-building to drive the inclusion of Delta Breez products in residential and light commercial project specifications across the U.S. This in-house position offers remote flexibility and the opportunity to shape how Delta Breez products are specified in building designs, helping architects and engineers meet modern ventilation standards with our innovative solutions. The Specification Sales Engineer will report to the Director of Sales and collaborate closely with our sales, marketing, and product teams to expand our presence in the IAQ market.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Product Specifications: Proactively engage mechanical/electrical (MEP) engineering firms, architects, builders, and consultants to get Delta Breez ventilation products specified in residential and light commercial IAQ projects. This includes influencing design-stage decisions by highlighting product performance, energy efficiency, and code compliance benefits
- Technical Consultation: Serve as a trusted technical advisor to specifiers – provide accurate recommendations on product selection, installation, and application to meet project requirements. Leverage your HVAC/ventilation expertise to ensure our fans and IAQ solutions help clients design beyond code (e.g. ASHRAE 62.2, Title 24, ENERGY STAR) and solve ventilation challenges.
- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key specifiers and firms nationwide, especially top MEP engineering and design firms. Regularly conduct Lunch & Learn presentations, webinars, and product training sessions to educate engineering and architectural teams on Delta Breez offerings and build loyalty to our brand.
- Project Pipeline Management: Track and manage a pipeline of projects where Delta Breez products are specified. Monitor project stages from initial specification through bid, procurement, and installation. Work closely with regional sales managers, rep agencies, and distributors to ensure specifications convert into orders, effectively turning spec wins into revenue.
- Specification Support: Provide specifiers with all necessary technical documentation and support to facilitate using our products. This includes supplying CAD/BIM drawings, Revit families, specification sheets, performance data, and code compliance information for each product. Be responsive and “on-call” to address technical questions during design and even installation phases, ensuring customer confidence in our solutions.
- Market Intelligence & Feedback: Stay attuned to market trends in ventilation and IAQ (e.g. new building codes, sustainability goals, competitor products). Identify opportunities for Delta Breez to be included in upcoming projects or standards. Gather feedback from the field on product performance and specifier needs, and relay insights to internal teams (product development, engineering, marketing) to inform product improvements or new solution development.
- Industry Engagement: Represent Delta Breez at industry events, trade shows, and professional associations (such as ASHRAE meetings, IAQ conferences, etc.). Network with industry professionals and present our IAQ solutions’ benefits to a broader audience, raising brand awareness and generating new leads for specification opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Science, or a related field. (Equivalent technical experience in HVAC/ventilation will also be considered.)
- Industry Experience: 5+ years of experience in technical sales, specification sales, or HVAC design – preferably in ventilation, air quality, or related building products for residential/commercial projects. Demonstrated success in influencing product selections or driving specifications on construction projects is highly desired.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of HVAC and IAQ systems (ventilation fans, air flow design, ducting, etc.) and relevant building codes/standards (such as ASHRAE 62.2 for residential ventilation, LEED and ENERGY STAR® guidelines, and state codes like California Title 24). Ability to discuss energy-efficient design and compliance benefits with technically trained customers.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation abilities. Capable of explaining technical concepts and product advantages clearly to engineers, architects, and non-technical stakeholders alike. Experience conducting educational presentations or training sessions is a plus.
- Sales & Relationship Skills: Proven ability to build relationships and network within the building design community. A consultative sales approach with strong negotiating skills and a customer-service mindset is essential. You should be comfortable engaging stakeholders at all levels and managing long sales cycles typical of specification sales (influencing projects from design to procurement).
- Organizational Skills: Highly self-motivated and organized in managing multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in using CRM software for tracking engagements, and discipline in maintaining up-to-date records of customer interactions, project specifications, and sales forecasts. Strong time management and the ability to work independently in a remote setting are required.
- Travel Ability: Willingness to travel approximately 25–30% of the time (or as needed) to visit clients on-site, attend meetings and trade shows, and support projects in the field. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel nationally is required.
