Project Coordinator
Reports to: Dr. Ahsan Habib, Professor, and Director Dalhousie Transportation Collaboratory
Department: School of Planning, and Department of Civil and Resource Engineering
Position Status: Casual full-time, maximum 35 hours per week, one year contract (renewable)
Location: The Project Coordinator is expected to be able to work from the CART Lab located at 5217 Morris Street, room 505, Halifax, NS, B3J 1B6.
Overview of DalTRAC:
Dalhousie Transportation Collaboratory (DalTRAC) is a multi-disciplinary research facility dedicated to the advancement of transportation engineering/planning research and practice at Dalhousie University. The unit aims to contribute to transportation studies, planning, and analysis at local, regional, and national levels. Currently, two postdoctoral researchers, 14 full-time graduate students, two part-time students, a programmer, and three project coordinators are working at DalTRAC.
Position Description:
The Project Coordinator will contribute to a variety of DalTRAC events and transportation projects. The position involves collaboration with team members and stakeholders in the participation, organization, and promotion of highly knowledge-intensive transportation planning research activities to help achieve project goals. Duties to be performed by the Project Coordinator will include but are not limited to:
- Coordinating and implementing DalTRAC’s projects, including the Climate Action and Awareness Fund (CAAF) project – a large-scale, multi-city, multi-partner project for climate action research in the transportation sector
- Coordinating and developing deliverables for Dalhousie University’s Subsurface Energy Research Program/Transportation and Infrastructure Study
- Participating in the development of research proposals for competitive grant applications and transportation planning projects
- Assisting in event planning, stakeholder workshop planning, and focus group discussions
- Assisting in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and posters for research dissemination
- Collaborating with full-time graduate students in writing and editing manuscripts for scholarly publications in journals and conference proceedings (e.g., TRB Annual Meeting)
- Assisting the Director in advancing DalTRAC’s research agenda
- Assisting DalTRAC research affiliates, speakers, and partners in relation to project goals and objectives
- Providing administrative support to ensure smooth operation of the lab
- Maintaining financial reports, budgets, and deliverables for CAAF and other DalTRAC projects
- Scheduling and providing support for meetings including note taking, preparing agendas, minutes, and follow-up.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in urban planning, public administration, environmental science, management, or related program from an accredited university
- Passion for transportation, urban planning, and related research
- Strong competency in project coordination, time management, and attention to detail
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including effective verbal/written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and partnerships
- Strong ability to work independently to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Sound behavioral competencies including teamwork, cooperation, innovation, leadership, communication, impact and influence, and valuing diversity.
Assets:
- Previous work experience in project coordination
- Financial management experience
- Experience in an academic environment
- Proficiency in GIS and the Adobe Suites.
