Lead Protected Sites Programme Advisor
The role
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is looking for an experienced and passionate individual to lead our Protected Sites Programme. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of Wales' most important terrestrial, freshwater and marine protected areas, ensuring they deliver for nature, people and climate.
This is an exciting time in the development of approaches to nature recovery in Wales, focussing on the Global Biodiversity Framework's 30 by 30 target. At the heart of our programme is managing our protected sites database, generating ways and means to understand the data we hold, making it understandable to a range of audiences and to be used for data informed decisions.
Alongside our data and information is coordinating and mentoring team members working within the protected sites programme generating a positive can do attitude to problem solving. Identifying issues and risks and raising them though our governance framework is an essential part of the role to overcome strategic barriers and challenges to delivering on duties and our organisational ambitions.
About Us
The role sits in the Biodiversity Policy and Strategy Team in the newly formed Integrated Approached for Nature, Climate and People Group within the Natural Resource Management Department. Our team is built of protected sites, geo-conservation, biodiversity and ecosystem resilience experts working to implement our nature recovery corporate objective alongside our approaches to climate change and reducing pollution.
The team works across all of Wales and is responsible for engaging the Welsh Government, other Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies, eNGOs and industry bringing together ways of working to implement national and international biodiversity strategies, policies and legislation.
