Product Development Lead

Location: Berlin, Germany

Working model: On-site

Sector: Climate Technology / Advanced Engineering

Type: Full-time

The Opportunity

We are exclusively partnering with an early-stage climate technology company developing a novel DAC technology designed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of critical infrastructure.

Following successful R&D and proof-of-concept work, the company is now moving into pilot deployment and early commercialisation. This is a key stage in the company's development, with the next challenge being to take a promising lab-scale technology and turn it into a reliable, manufacturable and commercially viable product.

We are looking for a Product Development Lead to take ownership of this transition.

This is a hands-on engineering and scale-up position for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of product development, materials, process engineering and manufacturing.

The Role

You will lead the maturation of the company's core technology from pilot-validated prototypes towards an industrial product.

Initially, you will work closely with the existing technical team and external development partners to resolve remaining engineering challenges. As the technology matures, your focus will shift increasingly towards product industrialisation, manufacturing scale-up, reliability and cost optimisation.

Product Development Lead responsibilities

  • Lead product development from prototype and pilot stage through to an industry product.
  • Translate system-level requirements into practical engineering specifications and designs.
  • Own relationships with external engineering and manufacturing development partners from specification through to delivery.
  • Lead targeted development work and experiments to resolve outstanding technical questions.
  • Develop and drive the product development roadmap through successive validation and pilot stages.
  • Apply strong design-for-manufacture, reliability and cost principles across materials, processes and supplier decisions.
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions and identify opportunities to improve scalability and commercial viability.
  • Work closely with simulation, materials, chemistry and engineering teams to translate R&D into a robust physical product.
  • Build and develop a small technical team as the company moves towards commercial scale.
  • Act as a hands-on technical bridge between R&D and engineering/manufacturing.

Product Development Lead requirements

We are looking for an engineer with experience taking complex physical technology from R&D through pilot and towards commercial production.

Experience with membrane or fibre-based technologies would be advantageous.

More important is your ability to take an early-stage technology, identify what needs to change to make it manufacturable and reliable, and then lead that process through to implementation.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience in product development and hardware scale-up.
  • Experience taking technology from prototype/pilot towards manufacturing.
  • A strong understanding of design-for-manufacture and engineering principles.
  • Experience working with external suppliers, development partners or manufacturers.
  • The ability to work across multiple disciplines including mechanical, chemical, materials and process engineering.
  • A hands-on, pragmatic approach to solving technical problems.
  • Experience working in a startup, scale-up or other fast-moving engineering environment.
  • The communication skills to work effectively across technical teams and external partners.
  • A willingness to get involved in the detail while also owning the broader product roadmap.
  • You may come from a background in:
  • Climate technology, Electrolysers, Batteries, Gas separation, Membranes/filtration, Industrial process equipment, Advanced materials

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join an ambitious early-stage climate technology company at a critical point of scale-up.

You will have significant ownership over the transition from promising technology to commercial product, working directly with the leadership team and helping shape both the technology and the engineering organisation around it.

You will also have the opportunity to build a team around you as the company progresses towards commercial deployment.

If you have experience taking complex hardware from prototype → pilot → production, we'd be very interested in hearing from you.
