Power Plant Electrician

Cox South Africa is looking for a Power Plant Electrician.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Enforce HSSE and Quality policies and procedures
- Carry out routine operation and maintenance of electrical systems including generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance as per plant schedules.
- Inspect electrical installations for faults, wear, overheating, insulation failure, or loose connections.
- Use test instruments such as multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers (Meggers), and continuity testers.
- Operate and maintain LV, MV, and HV switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, and busbar systems.
- Monitor and maintain load distribution and feeder systems within the plant.
- Strictly follow Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) and Lockout‑Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain motor control circuits, starters (DOL, star‑delta, soft starters), relays, contactors, and control panels.
- Understand and follow single‑line diagrams and wiring drawings
Qualifications:
- Trade Certificate / Apprenticeship (Electrician)
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering (advantage)
- At least 5 years’ experience in electrical maintenance of large power generation or continuous process plants.
- Hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment preferable power generation plant
- Hands-on experience in the maintenance, repair and testing of protection equipment, generators/transformers, MV/LV switchgears is an advantage.
- Must have a valid driver’s licence.
