Commissioning Manager

Cox South Africa is looking for a Commissioning Manager responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of commissioning activities for utility-scale photovoltaic plants and associated electrical infrastructure. The position will provide technical and operational leadership to the commissioning team and will be responsible for energization, electrical testing, system integration, grid connection activities and handover.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate commissioning activities for PV arrays, inverter stations, MV/HV networks and substations.
• Plan and manage energization activities and commissioning readiness.
• Coordinate electrical testing, vendors and specialized subcontractors.
• Coordinate Eskom commissioning, grid connection and grid compliance tests required for plant energization and export of power to the grid.
• Coordinate commissioning interfaces with the Project Manager, construction, engineering, Client and other relevant stakeholders.
• Manage Permit to Work and Lock Out Tag Out responsibilities as applicable.
• Monitor commissioning progress, identify constraints and maintain commissioning planning and reporting.
• Ensure commissioning tests and documentation are completed in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
• Coordinate punch-list close-out and final system handover.

Requirements:

• Minimum seven years of experience in commissioning electrical systems for power generation projects, renewable energy plants, substations or similar electrical infrastructure.
• Previous experience as Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Lead or in a comparable position with responsibility for the commissioning scope of a project.
• Previous experience with Eskom commissioning, grid connection and grid compliance testing in South Africa.
• Demonstrated experience with plant energization and Permit to Work / Lock Out Tag Out systems.
• Strong technical knowledge of MV/HV systems, including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, substations and electrical testing.
• Experience with utility-scale solar PV projects would be highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
• Professional working proficiency in English
