Be Executive is proud to be supporting Citizens’ Own Renewable Energy Network Australia (CORENA) in identifying their next voluntary board member.
About CORENA
CORENA is a national environmental charity established in 2013 with a clear and practical mission: to help community organisations take meaningful climate action.
CORENA operates a donor-funded revolving loan model, providing interest-free loans to not-for-profit organisations to install renewable energy and emissions-reduction projects such as rooftop solar, batteries and electrification upgrades. As loans are repaid, the funds are recycled into new projects - allowing the same dollar to deliver impact again and again.
The results are tangible and growing. To date, CORENA has issued almost $2 million in interest-free loans, funded more than 60 community projects, installed over 1.3 MW of rooftop solar, and helped community organisations collectively avoid thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions while saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy costs each year.
What makes CORENA distinctive is its grassroots DNA. CORENA is practical, values-led and impact-focused - committed to real climate outcomes for schools, community centres, charities and social enterprises across Australia.
CORENA is now entering an exciting new phase of growth, with increasing loan volumes, larger and more complex projects, growing philanthropic support, and a refreshed brand to be rolled out in 2026.
About the Board Role
CORENA is seeking new Board Directors to support the organisation through its next stage of growth and evolution.
Board members play an active role in:
- Providing strong governance and strategic oversight
- Approving loans and projects supported by the revolving fund
- Supporting financial sustainability, risk management and organisational maturity
- Contributing ideas, networks and perspective to help CORENA scale its impact nationally
You do not need to be a renewable energy expert. While an interest in climate solutions is essential, CORENA actively supports board members to build understanding of its projects and funding model.
