A leading Australian energy business is seeking a senior Energy Markets Manager to support the execution and optimisation of wholesale electricity trading, renewable energy contracting, environmental markets, and portfolio risk management across a diversified generation and retail energy portfolio.
This role plays a key part in delivering energy market strategy across wholesale, retail exposure, and structured energy positions, with a strong focus on driving commercial performance within defined risk appetite and regulatory frameworks.
You will manage hedging strategy, portfolio optimisation, market risk management, and long-term contracting (including PPAs, offtake agreements, ISDAs, and retail supply arrangements) across a dynamic energy portfolio operating in the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM).
Key responsibilities:
- Execute energy market strategy across wholesale electricity, environmental, and renewable markets
- Manage structured energy portfolios including hedging and risk optimisation activities
- Oversee trading activities across forwards, options, swaps, caps, and environmental products
- Negotiate and execute long-term commercial agreements (PPAs, offtakes, structured contracts)
- Lead forecasting, pricing analysis, and scenario modelling to support commercial decision-making
- Manage market risk, credit exposure, collateral, and liquidity requirements
- Support investment, acquisition, and divestment decision-making processes
- Contribute to leadership and development of the energy markets team
About you:
- Significant experience in energy markets, power trading, or portfolio management within the Australian energy sector or comparable deregulated market
- Strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets and the NEM
- Proven experience in trading, hedging, and structured energy contracting (PPAs highly desirable)
- Strong commercial acumen with advanced financial modelling and valuation capability
- Experience working within or supporting trading, origination, or energy markets functions
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including interaction with senior and executive stakeholders
