Job Description:
The Director Strategic Communications is the senior leader responsible for shaping and executing an integrated communications strategy that advances our mission, protects and enhances our reputation, and equips executives and teams to communicate with clarity and impact. This role spans corporate and product communications, policy and issues management, media relations, executive visibility and internal/employee communications. You’ll be part of a high-performing team, partner closely with the Executive Committee, and serve as a trusted counsellor on high-stakes moments.
The role reports to the Group Head Market Development and would suit someone with 10+ years’ agency or inhouse experience in international, complex, regulated and science/engineering-heavy sectors (energy, climate tech, maritime, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, nuclear, etc.). The Director Strategic Communications works together with the Director Marketing, who is responsible internal and external events coordination and outreach, in a wider Comms and Marketing team of four: two designers, a Social Media Specialist and a Marketing Administrator. The position is office-based at the company headquarters in Chiswick.

Job Requirements:
The key job requirements are:
- Strategy & narrative
Develop the multi-year communications strategy and annual plan aligned to business goals and brand positioning. Own corporate narrative, messaging architecture, and proof points; ensure consistency across all channels and geographies, in particular the UK/EU and the U.S. Translate complex technical and policy topics into clear, compelling stories for diverse audiences.
- Reputation & issues
Lead risk scanning, scenario planning and issues/crisis communications; maintain playbooks and response protocols. Serve as on-record/off-record company spokesperson; prep executives for media, panels, and presentations. Build and maintain relationships with tier-one media, trade press, analysts and key opinion formers.
- Policy, industry, and thought leadership
Partner with Government Affairs/Regulatory to communicate around regulatory milestones, standards and stakeholder engagements. Design executive visibility platforms, including keynotes, op-eds, LinkedIn engagement and podcasts, with measurable outcomes. Commission and package data/insights, including white papers, that advance category leadership.
- Corporate & product communications
Lead launch communications for major announcements, including partnerships, funding, pilots, deployments and safety and/or licencing and permitting milestones. Integrate earned, owned, shared and paid tactics into cohesive campaigns; establish content cadence and editorial calendar. Oversee website, including a refresh/redevelopment, newsroom and content systems; ensure accessibility and brand compliance.
- Internal communications
Align the organization via all-hands, leadership communications, change comms and internal briefing channels. Provide toolkits so managers can cascade strategy and milestones effectively.
- Team, vendors, and budget
Build, where needed, coach and retain a high-performing comms team; manage internal and external resources across PR, creative and research. Own planning, objectives and key results and budget; institute measurement frameworks and post-mortems.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Journalism, or related.
Work Experience:
- 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in in international, complex, regulated and science/engineering-heavy sectors (energy, climate tech, maritime, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, nuclear, etc.).
