Intermediate Environmental Technician
We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Technician with ~7+ years of experience in environmental services in Western Canada. This full-time, permanent position is based in our Whitehorse office.
The successful candidate will assist project managers, senior scientists and engineers with both contaminated sites and environmental related projects. You should have previous junior/intermediate level Environmental Scientist, Engineer, or Technologist experience, or an interest in gaining this experience, with an educational background in environmental work, contaminated sites investigation, environmental monitoring, and/or remediation. Experience working outdoors is an asset.
Key Qualifications
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in sciences or a related field, or 7+ year of monitoring experience;
- Experience conducting and/or leading environmental assessments, permitting, and baseline monitoring programs;
- Experienced in collecting scientific data including hydrology and groundwater, soils, air, and contaminated sites;
- Experienced in data tabulation, environmental data interpretation, reporting, and composing recommendations;
- Experienced coordinating staff and subcontractors;
- Experienced in composing, editing and reviewing environmental monitoring reports;
- Experienced with climate change adaption, management plan development, and mitigations;
- Experience with industry and First Nations engagement;
- A Canadian citizen and/or legally able to work in Canada;
- Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license; and
- Other duties as required.
Your capabilities
- Experienced and available for regular field work including locally and in remote and challenging northern locations;
- Familiar with environmental field sampling methods and equipment for groundwater and surface water monitoring, water and wastewater monitoring, soil sampling, air quality monitoring, and contaminated sites;
- Strong coordination, communication, organizational, and time management skills;
- Independent with strong task ownership skills and the ability to monitor your own time and meet project schedules and budget expectations;
- Strong collaboration and mentorship skills, with the ability to foster a positive team environment and culture, support the development of staff, and actively learn from others;
- Interested in business development, and proposal writing;
- Strong professional communication skills, including excellent technical writing skills for a variety of audiences;
- Experienced working around drills is an asset;
- Experienced working on contaminated sites is an asset; and
- Experience acquired in the Yukon is considered an asset.
