Overview

Were looking for a VP of Finance to take full ownership of Coppers financial operations, models, and capital planning. Youll be the connective tissue between operations, accounting, and strategy - turning data into clarity, forecasts into decisions, and ensuring Coppers financial foundation scales cleanly with our growth.

This is a handson role for someone who enjoys building and maintaining structure in a fastmoving environment, not managing large teams or creating endless decks. Youll shape the financial engine of a company, redefining how homes electrify. This role reports to the CEO.

This is a fulltime position, and it is expected to be inoffice 4 days per week, with 1 day flexible for inoffice or remote work. Our office is located in Berkeley, CA.

What Youll Do

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Own and continuously refine Coppers operating model, connecting production, installation, COGS, warranty, returns, and revenue recognition.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting with department heads; translate operational plans into financial outcomes.
  • Track and analyze unit economics, gross margin, COGS, and warranty impacts, helping the team understand and improve performance.
  • Deliver concise monthly financial reports and variance analysis for leadership and investors.

Accounting & Financial Hygiene

  • Manage the relationship with Coppers external accountants, ensuring timely closes and GAAPcompliant statements.
  • Oversee core financial processes: payables, receivables, payroll, and expense tracking.
  • Ensure accuracy in inventory and cost accounting as production scales.
  • Keep Copper auditready through disciplined reconciliations and documentation.
  • Work seamlessly within Coppers financial systems, including QuickBooks, Brex, Ramp, Carta, and Google Sheets.

Capital & Cash Management

  • Track debt and workingcapital facilities; manage lender reporting and compliance.
  • Maintain rolling cashflow forecasts and advise leadership on runway and liquidity.
  • Support future capital raises through modeling, materials, and diligence readiness.

Customer & Project Financing

  • Partner with Sales and Development teams to design financing products for multifamily and channel customers.
  • Negotiate and establish external financing partnerships to make electrification accessible at scale.
  • Build models to evaluate different financing and pricing structures.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Work with Operations to forecast manufacturing and delivery costs.
  • Support Product and Marketing with pricing, warranty, and margin insights.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure Coppers financial strategy supports its mission and growth trajectory.

What Youll Bring

510 years of experience in finance, FP&A, or accounting, ideally in hardware, manufacturing, or climate tech.

Proven skill in building and maintaining driverbased financial models.

Strong grasp of COGS, unit economics, inventory, and margin analysis.

Experience managing external accounting teams and monthend close processes.

Familiarity with venture debt, equipment financing, and projectfinance structures.

Excellent communication skillsable to translate numbers into clear narratives for both technical and nontechnical audiences.

A handson, lowego operator who thrives in a growing startup environment.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $170,000 - 210,000 per year. We are committed to equitable compensation, and offer a generous benefits package to make sure you have the support you need. We cover 100% of the premiums for our employees and 50% of the premiums for their dependents on our base plans for medical, dental, and vision insurance. We offer a 401(k) plan for employees to contribute to, in addition to many other benefits. Every employee, regardless of gender identity or expression, is eligible for 16 weeks of paid parental leave after three months of employment (eight weeks through Copper and eight weeks CA Paid Family Leave).
