Energy Policy Reporter - Brussels
Descriptif du poste
We’re opening a new chapter in European journalism. Be a part of it.
About Us
Contexte is an independent media outlet: employee-owned with a subscription-only model. Our mission is to provide policy professionals with the information they need to make decisions. Contexte establishes a new standard of quality information by delivering and curating the most factual, in-depth policy news and analysis.
This Is Why We
Our political news is delivered every morning to the inbox of 14,000 subscribers working in NGOs, private companies, public administrations, consultancies and law firms. We lift the hood on how governments exercise political power and how lobbyists develop their influence. Our products are designed to provide timely, actionable information, so professionals can stay ahead of developments and make informed decisions for their organisations.
Now we’re looking for a reporter to join our English-language vertical on energy policy, which launched in May 2025 – the first in an ambitious new line of products focused on EU professionals.
Join a collaborative European newsroom
As part of our pioneering English-language team, you’ll join a truly European newsroom with teamwork in its DNA. English and French-speaking journalists work together, collecting information and sharing insights, sources, and ideas to ensure comprehensive, high-quality coverage tailored to respective audiences – EU and French professionals.
The team includes an adaptation editor to adapt content across languages and a dedicated manager to provide guidance and support. Beyond your immediate colleagues, you’ll be part of a larger team, joining our established Brussels newsroom, where you’ll have the opportunity to work with over 20 reporters.
What You Will Do
Our mission is to understand the technical and structural factors influencing political decisions, and to reveal how power is wielded and public policies developed within the European Union.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in uncovering and delivering the critical insights our readers rely on:

What We’re Looking For
- Top journalist with at least 3 years of experience as a reporter.
- Scoop-hunters driven to uncover exclusives and gather information that can’t be found anywhere else.
- Passionate storytellers with a sharp eye for looking behind the scenes: at how institutions really work, and how power is really exercised.
- Experts in navigating the “Brussels bubble”, with a deep understanding of EU institutions and policymaking.
- An understanding of energy and climate policy – or a proven track record in getting to grips with technical subjects, and finding the politics within them.
- Writers who can deliver sharp, insightful analyses tailored for EU professionals, offering them a better understanding of EU institutions.
- Attention to detail, and the ability to root around in it.
- Team players excited to help establish a new product in a competitive media landscape.
- Journalistic fluency in English (C2/native-level).
- As the language spoken by much of the newsroom, French is a plus, but it’s not a requirement. The ability to thrive in an international, collaborative environment is what really matters. Other European languages are also a bonus.
