Midlevel Giving Manager

POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Arlington-VA or Seattle-WA

The Midlevel Giving Manager is a donor-facing member of the Development team who serves as the donor liaison for all Emerald Circle donors giving $1,000-9,999. This position will also manage a strategic portfolio of Midlevel upgrades providing high-quality donor cultivation and engagement through both individual and mass personal touches. The Manager will cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects through the pipeline, ensuring they have a seamless experience with a focus on upgrading giving and increasing retention of Midlevel donors. The Manager will correspond with donors through virtual visits, calls, and emails, and the Manager must be fully comfortable interacting with donors daily and representing Conservation International to external partners.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Emerald Circle Midlevel program. This includes extensive collaboration within the department to develop Midlevel communications and engagements and to help drive the execution of Midlevel direct mail and digital strategy. The Midlevel Giving Manager reports to and works in close partnership with the Sr. Director of Individual Giving on developing and executing Midlevel program strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Midlevel Portfolio Management

  • Serves as the donor liaison for all Emeral Circle members.
  • Manages a strategic portfolio of Emerald Circle upgrade prospects and cultivates relationships with thoughtful, personal outreach and engagement opportunities in order to secure annual and increased support.
  • Conducts calls and virtual visits with donors on a monthly basis.
  • Assists in the management of other Midlevel and high-level donors as needed.
  • Represents CI in meaningful dialogues with prospects and donors, maintaining the highest level of donor confidentiality and discretion. Works with CI staff to maximize cultivation and solicitation opportunities that are aligned with funding initiatives, institutional priorities, and events.

Emerald Circle Program Management and Strategy

  • Refines the Emeral Circle donor communications strategy to effectively cultivate and steward all Emerald Circle donors.
  • Partners with other members of the Annual Giving team to execute mail and digital upgrade strategies that increase Emerald Circle revenue and membership.
  • Develops and executes at least one Midlevel engagement opportunity that allows donors to connect and inspires them to give.
  • Pilots new ideas to continually improve the Midlevel Giving donor experience.
  • Works in close collaboration with the Sr. Director of Individual Giving and the Azure Circle Midlevel Giving Manager to act as a thought partner and suggest midlevel strategy refinement.
  • Identifies new and innovative ways to increase Midlevel revenue and membership.

People and Resource Management Responsibilities

  • This position does not supervise staff but may direct the work of vendors, interns, or temporary staff.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor. All members of the Development team regularly serve as back-up to colleagues who are away from the office for short periods of time or on projects with tight deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Typical office environment.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate time differences with HQ and field programs may be necessary.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support account leads and fundraising efforts.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 4-6 years of fundraising, sales, or nonprofit experience required.
  • Experience managing a portfolio and successfully closing annual gifts and/or experience managing a Midlevel program.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and tact, the ability to listen, and the ability to build strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience using fundraising database software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred

  • Experience consistently soliciting and closing 4+ figure gifts annually.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in conservation, environmental studies, global development, or related topics.
