POSITION SUMMARY

The Individual Giving Manager will be an independently motivated individual who will excel at managing both people and processes, assessing current plans for annual donors, implementing improvements, and focusing on the growth and retention of our annual donor pool.

This position reports to and works closely with the Director of Individual Giving to develop and implement donor retention strategies to include fundraising and stewardship communications for annual giving donors and assists with the expansion of the program, which includes three segments of supporters—annual donors who give less than $1,000, Emerald Circle donors giving between $1,000-$24,999, and donors giving on a monthly basis. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely implementation of all donor touchpoints.

This position will act as a relationship manager, working with the Brand and Communications team and external agency partners to develop donor communications that showcase Conservation International’s work and builds a case for support among current and prospective donors

RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:

  • Develop and own the Annual Giving calendar to ensure timely, cost-effective communications and an overall robust donor experience.
  • Develop an organized strategic planning framework, including management of direct mail campaign kick-offs, campaign documentation, and strategy feedback.
  • Manage the end-to-end implementation process for Annual Giving donor communications to include fundraising appeals and donor stewardship/engagement pieces in close collaboration with external agency partners, mail shop partners, and internal partner groups.
  • Manage the full mail production process including but not limited to, content and theme strategy for acquisition and retention, copy review, pulling of mailing lists, and collaboration with direct mail partners on art and versioning needs. Also, assist in the review and proofing process and manage the quote process with the mail shop and agency partners, all while looking for cost-saving opportunities.
  • Update mail projections, expenses, and metrics, compile final results, and provide recommendations to the team, allowing for data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Donor Experience team to implement a robust donor experience plan, with a best-in-class donor experience program to increase retention, and revenue and move donors up the pipeline.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Fundraising team on email strategies and themes for Annual Giving audiences and plans cross-channel communications.
  • Help develop, monitor, reproject, and reconcile the Annual Giving expense and revenue budgets.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors and consultants.
  • Assist in drafting the direct mail fiscal year budget on an annual basis.

DATA & PROGRAM ANALYSIS:

  • Prepare ongoing analysis of the marketing program, including the timing, volume, and types of response to each marketing initiative. Share relevant analyses with the marketing team and vendors to inform future projects.
  • Provide reporting as needed to the Development Leadership Team. This includes but is not limited to match campaigns, progress, and projections on new donor counts, sustainer statistics, and highlights of successes and challenges in the Annual Giving program.
  • Ensure data integrity and that critical donor information/contacts/moves are reflected in the CRM.
  • Track and analyze the effectiveness of all new donor acquisition and retention campaigns. Interpret giving statistics, donor behavior, trends, successes, testing, and outcomes, working with the Annual Giving team and program partners to create strategies and tactics to optimize short- and long-term donor value and achieve program performance goals.
  • Recommend thoughtful testing, incorporation of industry best practices, program and campaign improvements, and re-design strategies based on analysis to ensure campaign strategy and performance goals are met.
  • Identify annual fund donors and midlevel prospects between the $250 and $999 giving level with a focus on increasing annual gifts. Makes recommendations for movement of donors to midlevel.

DONOR SUPPORT AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING:

  • Provide support as needed in Annual Giving donor relations
  • Serve as point of contact for any specific questions from donors or colleagues on direct mail pieces, partnering with the Development Coordinator of Annual and Planned Giving on responses as needed

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Pursue professional development opportunities in annual giving, direct mail marketing and strategy, and acquisition and retention to continue to strengthen personal professional skills and expertise.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor. All members of the Development team regularly serve as back-up to colleagues who are away from the office for short periods of time or on projects with tight deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is based in Arlington, VA.
  • Typical office environment.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate time differences with HQ and field programs may be necessary.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support account leads and fundraising efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or up to four years of college-level work.
  • 4-6 years of related work experience in annual giving, direct mail fundraising, acquisition, or project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, self-managed, able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, have outstanding organizational abilities, good judgment, strong ethics, and keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using a computer database and PC software is highly desirable. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge fundraising software is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with colleagues, program leaders, donors, and prospects

Preferred

  • Passion for CI’s mission and a demonstrated understanding of conservation and/or fundraising issues.
