Role Overview
The Design Head will lead and manage the organisation’s engineering and design function for solar and renewable
energy projects. The role is responsible for delivering safe, compliant, technically robust and cost-effective designs
across distributed rooftop, ground-mounted, floating solar, open access, wind and solar-wind hybrid projects. The
incumbent will drive end-to-end design quality, engineering standardisation, value engineering, cross-functional
coordination and the development of a high-performing multidisciplinary design team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Function Leadership
Lead, plan and manage the design department in line with the organisation’s business plan, project pipeline and
delivery priorities.
Set design strategies, resource plans, deliverable schedules, quality benchmarks and performance measures.
Build, mentor and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, civil, structural and mechanical
disciplines.
Review team capacity, allocate resources and ensure timely delivery of accurate, construction-ready engineering
packages.
2. Solar & Renewable Energy Design
Lead end-to-end engineering and design for distributed rooftop, ground-mounted and floating solar power plants.
Oversee design and engineering for open access solar, wind and solar-wind hybrid projects, including grid
integration and associated balance-of-plant systems.
Guide feasibility assessments, site-specific engineering, plant layouts, equipment selection, system sizing and
detailed engineering.
Ensure appropriate design integration for energy storage and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions
and other emerging renewable technologies.
3. Engineering Quality, Validation & Compliance
Review and approve engineering deliverables, including SLDs, layouts, technical specifications, calculations,
construction drawings, BOQs and BOMs.
Ensure design accuracy, constructability, equipment compatibility, safety, reliability and compliance with applicable
Indian and international codes, standards and regulations.
Identify technical constraints, design risks and interface issues; drive timely corrective and preventive actions.
Establish design review gates, verification procedures, checklists and quality assurance processes.
4. Cross-functional & Stakeholder Management
Work closely with Sales, Procurement, Projects, Quality, ESG, Operations and Asset Management teams to deliver
cost-effective designs and support faster project execution.
Engage with clients, consultants, vendors, utilities and other external stakeholders to understand requirements,
resolve technical queries and provide engineering recommendations.
Support tendering and pre-bid activities through technical evaluation, design inputs, quantity estimates and
engineering clarifications.
5. Value Engineering & Cost Optimisation
Drive value engineering to improve the function-to-cost ratio while maintaining safety, quality, performance and
statutory compliance.
Optimise equipment selection, system configuration, material quantities, installation methods and constructability.
Validate BOQs/BOMs, identify cost-saving opportunities and support procurement negotiations through sound
technical assessments.
