The successful candidate will be a seasoned executive with a minimum of 10 years' experience in leading complex, multi-stakeholder organizations, and must demonstrate a strong passion for the mission. Key responsibilities for the CEO include strategic leadership, fundraising, external relations, operational and financial stewardship, and board partnership. The role demands a proven track record in fundraising, including the ability to cultivate and secure major gifts, and experience in government relations and policy work. The CEO will also be responsible for fostering a positive, engaged, and inclusive culture across a distributed workforce and must be adept at managing a geographically and culturally diverse staff and volunteer network. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, with a preference for an advanced degree in a related field, and must embody the values of the organization, including integrity, respect for volunteer culture, and a focus on conservation outcomes. Experience in nonprofit governance and a strong background in board development are essential. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to set the strategic direction, evaluate performance, and ensure strong governance. A background in environmental policy, nonprofit leadership, or natural resources is highly valued, and experience living, working, or hiking along the national scenic trail is a significant advantage.
