Job Description:
Position: Energy Efficiency Project Engineer II/Energy Engineer
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
- Conduct facility ASHRAE Level II and III audits for schools, hospitals, multifamily buildings, universities, municipalities, and other commercial properties.
- Perform facility utility analysis, energy benchmarking, energy balancing, and energy savings calculations.
- Review and develop calculations and assumptions used to estimate or measure energy savings.
- Produce technical reports that summarize project scope, methodologies, assumptions, findings, and recommendations.
- Conduct on-site data collection and deploy metering equipment to support energy analysis and validate equipment performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or related discipline).
- 3–6 years of experience with energy auditing (ASHRAE Level I–III), energy analysis, energy modeling, technical report writing, or engineering analysis.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, energy systems, building science, and high-performance design.
- Hands-on field experience with mechanical and energy systems is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with energy modeling tools such as eQUEST, EnergyPlus, Trane TRACE, or similar software.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet-based energy calculations and custom analysis tools.
- Experience developing ECM recommendations and quantifying savings for technologies such as HVAC, motors, lighting, controls, refrigeration, building envelope, and appliances.
- Knowledge of energy codes and standards including ASHRAE and IECC.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Licenses, certifications and accreditations are a plus (e.g., Professional Engineer, Engineer in Training, Certified Energy Manager, Building Energy Modeling Professional).
- Team-oriented, adaptive, and proactive with strong client service focus.
