Overview
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Construction Manager to oversee the execution of commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar projects. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Construction Manager serves as the primary on-site leader, coordinating with site leads, subcontractors, and internal teams to manage schedules, enforce safety programs, and uphold contractual requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in solar construction management and a proven ability to lead diverse field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day construction activities on multiple assigned projects, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and scope.
- Lead and enforce site safety programs, conducting daily safety walks and addressing hazards proactively.
- Manage site leads and coordinate with subcontractors to maintain smooth project execution.
- Track project progress and implement schedule remediation plans as needed.
- Verify construction milestones and ensure QA/QC requirements are met.
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices, change orders, and deliverables.
- Serve as the primary on-site representative for Commonwealth Power, maintaining strong relationships with clients, GC partners, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to communicate risks, resolve issues, and support project hand-offs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with permits and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of utility-scale or large commercial solar construction management experience.
- Proven ability to manage multiple crews and subcontractors on active job sites.
- Strong understanding of solar construction methods, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- Proficiency with Google Suite.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work safely in various outdoor conditions.
- Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 80%).
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Procore construction management software.
- Experience managing GCs and large-scale renewable energy projects.
- Knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes in solar construction.

Work Environment & Travel
This position is primarily field-based and must be able to travel around the state of Virginia with occasional office base work in Richmond, VA.
