Marine Meteorology Expert
Job description:
ROLE
You are responsible for Operational Innovation aimed at improving our vessels’ maritime routes, particularly regarding marine weather and oceanographic topics.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ?
- Continue developing domain expertise in meteorological and oceanographic sciences to support forecasting and analysis needs.
- Develop a Meteo-Oceanography training module for seafarers and operations managers.
- Further improve ocean current models in cooperation with the scientific community through projects such as those conducted with European Space Agency (ESA), EUMETSAT, Actimar, etc.
- Participate in the Conseil Supérieur de la Météorologie and with Météo-France as VP Operations.
- Develop the TIDE AND SURGE module, including the deployment of a ship-shore group tool providing tide information for all ports worldwide.
- Identify and integrate the best available climate datasets, including emerging phenomena linked to climate change, and conduct risk analysis for long-term forecasts affecting the Group’s marine activities.
- Launch a PhD research project with Météo-France focusing on ship routing risk criteria based on vessel motion measurements and vessel responses, mainly caused by waves.
- Maintain and strengthen the partnership with ABB and promote the decision-support and real-time parametric roll detection tool externally. This includes managing contractual aspects, validation testing, onboard deployment, and crew training.
- Participate as a permanent member of the “CMA CGM – ABB Parametric Roll Solution” strategic committee.

- Coordinate with CMAShip the monitoring of various ABB / Octopus onboard contracts as Business Owner for operational matters (CMAShip acting as IT Business Owner).
- Drive and increase operational savings through new methods based on confidence indices, improved communication, and more ergonomic digital interfaces.
- Improve energy efficiency and emissions reduction on every voyage by transforming high-frequency vessel data into operational actions for future voyages.
- Maximize operational benefits through the use of high-frequency SmartShip / Génésis data.
- Develop a routing module for LNG vessels that accounts for BOG (Boil-Off Gas) effects.
- Identify and propose PhD research topics that will significantly contribute to innovation and optimization of nautical and port operations for vessels operated by the Group.
