The Mission
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of the engineering design of energy efficiency and decarbonization projects across our industrial client base. This is a role for someone who wants to lead designs end-to-end – from feasibility through detailed design and into commissioning – on projects typically ranging from €500k to €5m in value.
You’ll work directly with clients, take technical ownership of mechanical utility systems, produce investment-grade design documentation, and collaborate with Climeaction’s wider engineering team to deliver projects that make a real difference.

You’ll work directly with clients, take technical ownership of mechanical utility systems, produce investment-grade design documentation, and collaborate with Climeaction’s wider engineering team to deliver projects that make a real difference.
The Work
- Take full ownership of mechanical engineering designs for energy efficiency and decarbonization projects across industrial facilities, from concept through detailed design to commissioning support.
- Produce all necessary design documentation including specifications, general arrangement drawings, PIDs, single line diagrams, equipment schedules, and technical reports.
- Perform engineering calculations for mechanical systems including heat load analysis, pipe sizing, pump selection, pressure drop calculations, and system balancing.
- Design and specify modifications to core utility systems including Steam, LPHW, Chilled Water, HVAC, Cooling Towers, Compressed Air, and other industrial utilities.
- Develop detailed project scopes, bills of quantities, and cost estimates for projects in the €500k to €5m range.
- Work directly with clients – presenting design solutions, managing technical queries, and building trusted engineering relationships.
- Coordinate with contractors, equipment suppliers, and specialist consultants during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Carry out site surveys, condition assessments, and energy audits to inform design decisions and identify optimization opportunities.
- Contribute to Climeaction’s technical standards and design best practices, and mentor junior engineers as the team grows.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- 7+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong focus on industrial or building services utility systems.
- Demonstrable experience designing systems across Steam, LPHW, CHW, HVAC, Cooling Towers, and/or Compressed Air.
- Proven ability to take ownership of engineering designs on projects in the €500k–€5m range, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills – comfortable producing specifications, technical reports, and design calculations to an investment-grade standard.
- Experience working directly with clients, managing technical relationships, and presenting design solutions with confidence.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP. Familiarity with engineering calculation tools and energy modelling software.
- Full clean driving license.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership with Engineers Ireland, IMechE, CIBSE, or equivalent.
- Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection on mechanical services projects.
- Background in pharmaceutical, life science, food beverage, or heavy manufacturing environments.
