Energy Engineer - CEOs Office
Energy Engineer, CEO's Office
Climeaction | Cork, Ireland | Permanent, full time | Regular travel to the US
Compress ten years of industrial energy experience into two. Work directly with the CEO of an Irish B Corp industrial decarbonization consultancy, on live pharmaceutical, medical device, food and dairy sites in Ireland and the US, and come out the far side leading your own assessment team.
This is the fastest route we know into senior industrial energy engineering. It is also demanding, with regular international travel. Read the section on what it demands before you apply.
What you will do
You work for one person: the CEO. You join every client site visit he makes, and within months you run them.
Read this twice. It is written to put off anyone who wants a steady desk job.
If that list reads as a challenge rather than a warning, keep going.
Climeaction is a B Corp certified industrial decarbonisation and carbon intelligence consultancy, headquartered at 11 South Mall, Cork, with offices in Boston. We run FAST assessments, Basis of Design studies, MV programmes and multi-year carbon reduction programmes for pharmaceutical, medical device, food and dairy manufacturers in Ireland and the US. Our deliverables are engineering documents that get built, not slide decks that get filed.

What you will do
You work for one person: the CEO. You join every client site visit he makes, and within months you run them.
- Walk industrial sites with the CEO, interview utilities managers and gather the data that others miss.
- Build site mass and energy balances and model heat recovery, heat pumps, thermal storage, electrification and fuel switching.
- Write the FAST reports, Basis of Design studies and Measurement and Verification (MV) plans that clients act on.
- Write the technical content of proposals and join the calls that win them.
- Present findings to site leadership and client boards, first alongside the CEO, then on your own.
- Document the method as you learn it. You will teach it to the team you build.
- Breadth in two years, not ten. Steam, refrigeration, compressed air, heat pumps, thermal storage, process heat integration and MV, across four manufacturing sectors. Most engineers see two or three of these in a decade on one site.
- The method from the person who built it. One-to-one with the founder for 24 months, on every site visit, every report and every client call. No one else in the firm gets this.
- The rooms that matter. You present to engineering directors, site heads and client boards from your first year. That is normally a ten-year wait.
- Two markets. Cork base, Boston office, client sites in Ireland and the US. Few Irish engineers at this stage get to work the US industrial market.
- A named destination. Establish and lead a FAST delivery team, reporting to the CEO, with a planning target of 18 to 24 months. You leave this role as a team lead, not as a senior engineer.
- Backing to match. Chartership support, a salary that steps up at each development gate.
Read this twice. It is written to put off anyone who wants a steady desk job.
If that list reads as a challenge rather than a warning, keep going.
- Hours .Assessment weeks mean early starts, late finishes and 2 to 4days on site. We work within Irish working time law, and this role uses the room inside it.
- Travel. Regular international travel, mainly to the US, sometimes at short notice. A valid passport and the ability to travel to the US without restriction are required. Expect several trips a year, each typically one to two weeks.
- Scrutiny. The CEO reviews your work line by line until it no longer needs it. You take direct feedback daily and act on it the same day.
- Ambiguity. Priorities move with the client pipeline. You are often the only engineer on the task and the structure around you is thin by design.
- Duration. Two years of this before you lead a team. There is no shortcut.
- Degree in mechanical, process, chemical or energy engineering. Working towards chartership.
- 2 to 5 years in industrial utilities, energy consulting, site engineering or a graduate programme in one of these.
- Exposure to plant-scale steam, hot water, refrigeration, compressed air or HVAC systems and how they are metered.
- Can build a basic energy balance from site data with guidance. Writes clearly and takes editing without complaint.
- Full driving licence. Based in Cork or willing to relocate.
- Has no issue / restrictions with travel to the USA for 1 - 3 weeks at a time on a regular basis.
- Wants to lead a team and says so.
- Salary: early-career engineer grade, stepping up at each development gate. Band confirmed at first interview.
- Start: Q 4 2026 / Q1 2027.
