About ClimateWorks Transportation Program

The ClimateWorks Transportation Program advances a sustainable, affordable, and low-carbon mobility system for people and goods movement. We broaden support for the transition to cleaner, more efficient, and zero-emission vehicle and fuel technologies, and for increasing efficient transportation choices, including transit, walking, biking, and shared mobility. We work with NGOs, academia, business, policymakers, consumers, and other stakeholders to advance sound policy, innovation, and investment.

About the Drive Electric Campaign

Drive Electric is the campaign to accelerate the global transition to 100% clean electric transportation for people and goods, delivering massive benefits to the climate, health, and the economy. Drive Electric works with an expansive network of partners to accelerate systems change through smart government policies, business leadership and action, and people-powered coalitions representing health, environment, labor, consumers, and communities affected by vehicle pollution.

Job Summary

The Drive Electric Campaign Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Drive Electric Campaign (DEC) for the ClimateWorks Foundation. Key responsibilities for this position are to manage CWF’s Drive Electric investment portfolio, advise Drive Electric aligned funding partners on investments and strategy, support the Drive Electric Campaign Steering Committee (DEC SC), and support additional fund-raising for the campaign. The Director will establish and cultivate relationships with internal and external experts, new and existing DEC funders, and organizational partners to implement DEC strategies. This position will be at the ClimateWorks Senior Strategist classification and reports to the Senior Director, Transportation. The position will initially manage up to two direct report(s) and several consultants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Director will be responsible for the following:
Identify investment priorities and provide guidance to partners regarding transportation electrification in key regions and globally.
Represent the DEC in public fora and work closely with our Marketing and Communications team to develop and present materials for different audiences.
Regularly collect information on key progress indicators, evaluate against goals, and report on progress to key partners, including funders.
Identify, develop, propose, and advocate for compelling funding opportunities.
Identify new/prospective grantee partners.
Organize effective convenings with DEC funders, DEC SC, and other DEC partners.
Work across ClimateWorks’ departments and teams to provide strategic guidance as to how the DEC can advance the CWF mission, values, and climate goals.
Coordinate work across a team of internal and external members, oversee grants and contracts, and foster connections between partners.

Compensation and Location

ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary. For this position, the expected salary will be between $160K and $200K commensurate with experience.

This position is classified as US Flexible meaning exceptional candidates can work from the SF office or from other US locations. A geographic differential applied to compensation based on local cost of labor.

Requirements

The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:

At least 7 to 10 years of relevant experience and strong academic credentials (an advanced degree is strongly preferred);
Substantial knowledge of transport electrification topics including cars, trucks, buses
Substantial knowledge of climate and EV policies, including ZEV and vehicle CO2 regulations
Communication skills and personal capabilities to operate in a collaborative, consensus-driven environment.
Demonstrated experience writing for general and diverse audiences.
Knowledge of, and experience working with, relevant stakeholder communities – experts, policymakers, funders, etc. – preferably on an international scale.
A practical view and understanding of issues and perspectives that drive public and private-sector organizations involved in EVs
Ability to generate innovative strategies and/or approaches with constituencies that have varying interests and objectives.
Skilled in diplomacy and relationship building.
A global outlook and the sensibility to empathize with, and adjust to, different cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, applicants with the following qualifications are welcome:

Advanced degree (MS, Ph.D.) in engineering, economics, environmental law or policy, or other relevant field.
Experience with philanthropic strategy, investment, and management.
Experience with philanthropically supported campaigns.
Proficiency w/ project mgmt. tools including, e.g., Google docs, Asana, MS Project, etc.
