Director of Engineering

Utility-Scale Solar & Energy Storage

A growing renewable energy business is looking to appoint a Director of Engineering to lead engineering activities across a portfolio of utility-scale solar PV and battery storage projects.


This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for building and managing a multidisciplinary engineering team while ensuring projects receive effective technical support from development through construction and commissioning.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineering professionals across electrical and civil disciplines.
  • Oversee engineering and design activities across utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Manage external engineering firms, consultants, and technical specialists.
  • Provide senior technical guidance to project development and delivery teams.
  • Lead technical and design reviews, resolving engineering challenges as projects progress.
  • Improve engineering processes, standards, and repeatable design approaches across the portfolio.
  • Plan engineering resources around the development and construction pipeline.
  • Support recruitment and continued growth of the engineering function.
  • Ensure designs meet relevant technical, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with commercial, construction, operations, and project teams throughout the project lifecycle.


The position will suit an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in utility-scale renewable energy, ideally including solar PV and BESS. The successful candidate will combine technical depth with team leadership and the ability to establish scalable engineering processes across a growing project portfolio.


Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred.

Required Experience: 10+ years in the energy sector, including 5+ years engineering utility-scale solar projects, with experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and supporting projects through design and construction.
