? Key facts

  • Volunteer role for a high-impact, grassroots climate action community
  • Commitment: ~5 hours / month + attend our monthly Climate Writers sessions on Sundays (4 hours). Minimum 12 months (starting May 2026)
  • Sydney-based (Gadigal / Bidjigal / Dharawal country)

? Who are we?

Climate Writers is a grassroots community that empowers everyday Australians to become lifelong advocates for the environment and their local community. Starting out as living room gatho’s with friends, we have since grown into a community of 400+ people, who have sent 700+ personalised letters to politicians on climate action, met with dozens of MPs, and contributed to a policy paper presented to the NSW Minister. Through monthly gatho’s, we aim to elevate the conversation about climate to a massive and sustained scale that is impossible for all politicians to ignore.

Our monthly calendar (feel free to attend): https://luma.com/climatewriters

? Who are we after?

We’re looking for someone passionate about social media, marketing and climate advocacy! This is a flexible opportunity perfect for someone who wants to build their skills, drive meaningful change, and create portfolio-worthy content.

You may be...

  • a student keen to get some experience working in the climate non-profit space, or in social media / marketing
  • someone who’s keen to amplify our impact - to get more people writing to MPs on climate action!

You’ll be working with co-founder Eezu Tan - a climate advocate who has been featured on SBS, TEDxSydney, and the Australian Museum. She has experience working in top-tier management consulting and climate-tech startups.

Our social media / marketing goals:

  • Boost member engagement by promoting upcoming events
  • Attract new members and grow our brand
  • Educate the public on climate topics / news

? What you’ll do

  • Lead our marketing and social media strategy
  • Create and schedule 4+ posts per month on Instagram / Linkedin (some on the grid, some on Instagram stories)
  • Regularly post on our Instagram stories in the lead up to upcoming events
  • Help maintain a consistent tone and visual style aligned with our brand (ie. fun, Gen Z / millennial, empowering, communal)
  • Suggest creative ideas to engage our growing community!

? About you

  • You’re reliable and on-the-ball with social media trends (there’s only a small window before the meme isn’t funny anymore!)
  • You’re creative and excited to create engaging content related to climate policy / news / solutions and our community
  • You have an eye for detail and visual design when creating Canva posts and short-form videos
  • You're passionate about climate action, policy solutions, and/or advocacy

? What you'll get

  • Portfolio content and real-world experience working with a nonprofit.
  • A reference letter and/or LinkedIn recommendation upon successful contribution.
  • Access to our network and community across people in climate tech, investing, consulting, non-profit, government and more (we’re happy to make intros to help achieve your professional goals!)
  • The chance to make a tangible impact in a flexible, supportive environment.
  • Something you’re after that’s not listed here? Let us know and we’ll try to make it work!
