About Low Carbon Transition Workstream

CPI’s Low Carbon Transition work stream focuses on decarbonization pathways of energy, industry, mobility and related sectors. The workstream combines economic impacts with an array of policy tools and financial instruments and mechanisms to address transition impacts and create opportunities for sustainable development.

The workstream collaborates with policymakers, financial institutions, industry, academia, civil society, and development partners to design transition frameworks that leverage public finance, development capital, and carbon finance while managing transition risks and maximizing opportunities.

About The Role

The Senior Manager will report to the Associate Director – Low Carbon Transition and play a key leadership role in delivering and expanding CPI’s research, stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.

This role offers the opportunity to shape low-carbon transition strategies, contribute to impactful policy interventions, and work with national and international stakeholders to advance climate action and sustainable development.

The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: energy, power, urban resilience, mobility, hard-to-abate industries, circular economy, or just transition. They will also lead collaborations with policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, industry partners, and CPI’s global teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

Includes The Following And Others As Assigned

  • Ownership of projects designated by, and under the direction of senior management; develop, manage, and implement complex research assignments and analytical projects, including oversight of all projects within the workstream.
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality knowledge products, including reports, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations, working closely with the other program and non-program teams.
  • Support the Associate Director in business development, program development and administrative activities including allocation of staff time in line with budgets.
  • Drive the team’s research and analysis on topics related to low carbon transition in power, urban resilience, mobility, industries, circularity and just transition thematic areas.
  • Co-author, review, and contribute to the development of long research reports, issue briefs, and blogs, other high quality and well researched outputs align with CPI standards.
  • Coordinate internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other dissemination activities and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders, existing clients, and potential partners.
  • Represent CPI and present research findings at high-level events and conferences and engage with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project teams, mentor junior staff on professional work practices, and lead by example, to build a strong sense of commitment and motivation in the team.

About You: Competencies & Experience

  • At least 12 years post qualification experience in economics, finance, policy or power sector
  • Post Graduate degree in business administration, economics, finance, engineering, sustainable development, public policy, or another relevant field and demonstrable.
  • Graduate degree in engineering with preference to electrical and mechanical engineering
  • Progressive experience analyzing India’s low carbon transition and knowledge about broader transition linked opportunities and complexities.
  • Knowledge of major policies, regulations and developments pertaining to India’s energy, mobility, industry and urban sectors aligned with India’s Net-Zero targets.
  • Sound understanding of finance, knowledge of decarbonization and finance in the Indian context preferred.
  • Knowledge about international development finance, financial institutions and carbon finance.
  • Independent, analytical mind with an excellent track record of applying sound technical and financial judgment to complex issues.
  • Flexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people.

  • Strategic thinker with sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in an Indian language is desirable.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Desirable

  • Exposure/Experience in working with the Policymakers, Regulators, Financiers, domestic and international development organizations.

Position Details

  • CPI is hiring for one full-time Senior Manager position based in Delhi/NCR.
  • CPI India has adopted a flexible working policy whereby staff are able to mix working remotely with days in the office.
