An exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of climate finance, infrastructure, and investment—supporting Maharashtra’s transition to a low‑carbon economy by mobilising real capital into climate‑aligned projects.
About the role
The Climate Finance Consultant will support the implementation of the Maharashtra Climate Investment Facilitation Programme (MH CIFP), led by Climate Group in partnership with AVPN and partner organization along with Government of Maharashtra.
The role will focus on supporting the development of an investor-ready pipeline of climate-aligned projects, conducting financial and market analysis, and enabling engagement with government stakeholders and capital providers.
This is a strong opportunity for a mid-career finance professional to work at the intersection of climate, infrastructure, and investment, contributing to real transactions and capital mobilisation efforts at the subnational level.
Key deliverables:
Pipeline Development and Project Preparation
- Support identification, screening, and prioritisation of climate-aligned projects across sectors (e.g., energy, agriculture, waste, urban infrastructure etc.)
- Assist in development of investment-ready project pipelines in collaboration with technical partners
- Conduct preliminary project assessments, including financial viability, risk profiling, and scalability
Financial Analysis and Structuring Support
- Provide coordination support across project workstreams, including tracking deliverables, timelines, and stakeholder inputs
- Support preparation of project briefs, presentations, and documentation for internal and external use
- Conduct background research and analysis on sectors, projects, and relevant climate finance trends
- Undertake investor and stakeholder mapping (MDBs, DFIs, climate funds, private sector) to inform engagement strategies
- Assist in organising and delivering stakeholder and investor engagements (e.g., roundtables, workshops, convenings)
Government and Stakeholder Coordination
- Support engagement with state government departments and agencies for data collection and project validation
- Assist in coordinating with consortium partners (AVPN) and external advisors
- Contribute to strengthening the government–investor interface through structured inputs and analysis
Programme Delivery and Knowledge Support
- Track progress of project pipeline and support reporting against programme milestones
- Contribute to development of tools and frameworks (e.g., Climate Investment Framework – CIF)
- Support preparation of reports, briefs, and knowledge outputs for internal and external stakeholders
About you
Desired skills and qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field.
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in: Climate Policy analysis and research, Climate finance, Project Management & Coordination, Stakeholder Engagement, Financial modelling and project analysis.
- Familiarity with climate policy frameworks (e.g. SAPCCs, NDCs) and sustainable finance concepts
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with attention to detail
- Experience engaging with government stakeholders or development finance institutions is desirable

Contract and compensation
- Contract type: Fixed-term consultancy, May 2026 – July 2027
- Location: Mumbai
- Engagement: Five Days a week for 14 months period
- Remuneration: Negotiable based on qualification and experience
