Grants Manager
Summary
Are you passionate about enabling climate action through strong partnerships, smart funding and robust governance? As Grants Manager at Climate Group, you’ll play a key role in turning ambitious commitments into real-world impact. You’ll help shape how we manage, deploy and report on grant funding across our global portfolio – ensuring our work is compliant, effective and trusted by our funders.
This is a visible, hands-on role within a mission-driven international organisation. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across our Programmes, Finance, Legal and Governance teams; build strong relationships with funders and partners; and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our grant management approach. If you enjoy combining technical expertise with collaboration, problem‑solving and purpose, this role offers a great opportunity to deepen your skills and grow your impact.
About the role
The Grants Manager sits within the Philanthropy & Institutions team in Development and leads grant management, funder compliance and reporting across Climate Group’s entities worldwide. You’ll ensure alignment with funder requirements, regulatory obligations and our global strategy, while enabling teams to deliver impactful climate programmes.
Acting as a key connector between Development, Legal, Governance, Programme and Finance teams, you’ll oversee the full grant lifecycle – from agreement negotiation and due diligence, through delivery and risk management, to reporting and close-out. You’ll also be Climate Group’s subject matter expert on grant compliance and funder requirements, and line manage a Grants & Compliance Officer, supporting their development and success.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing grant management across our global portfolio, ensuring funder, organisational and regulatory compliance from award to close-out.
- Reviewing and negotiating grant agreements and advising project teams on the most appropriate funding and contracting approaches.
- Owning the subgranting process – drafting, negotiating and managing Subgrant Agreements with partners, and overseeing amendments and lifecycle management.
- Coordinating project change requests, securing internal alignment and formal external approvals in line with funder terms.
- Championing grant compliance across the organisation, designing and delivering practical training and guidance to set teams up for success.
- Managing funder and partner due diligence, including gap analysis against internal policies and coordination of requests with Governance and Operations teams.
- Proactively identifying and managing risks, working with project, finance and leadership teams to keep delivery and spend on track.
- Overseeing funder reporting, acting as an escalation point and ensuring reports are accurate, compelling and audit-ready.
- Driving continuous improvement, embedding lessons learned from grant close-out into future bids and processes.
- Line managing and coaching the Grants & Compliance Officer, building capability, confidence and consistent delivery standards.
As a mission-driven organisation, we may ask colleagues to take on temporary assignments or secondments in a different team to support organisational priorities. We see these as opportunities for development and internal mobility, managed transparently and with appropriate support.
You’ll work in a highly collaborative, international environment, where a diversity of perspectives and experiences is valued and encouraged.
About you
You bring a strong track record in grants management within a non-profit or mission-driven organisation, along with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders and external partners. You’re comfortable navigating complex funding arrangements, balancing rigour with pragmatism, and enabling others to deliver their best work.
We value strengths and a passion for learning – if you meet most of the criteria below, we encourage you to apply.
Essential
- Significant experience managing grants across their full lifecycle, including agreements, compliance, reporting and close-out.
- Experience working with government, institutional, foundation and/or corporate funders.
- Strong understanding of funder, regulatory and audit requirements in an international or multi-entity context.
- Familiarity with grant related agreements including subgranting agreements.
- Proven ability to review and negotiate grant agreements, identifying and addressing risk.
- Experience leading due diligence processes with funders and/or project partners.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, advise and build trusted relationships across teams and levels.
- Experience managing or mentoring others, with a supportive and collaborative leadership approach.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail, alongside the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience working in a global organisation with multiple jurisdictions.
- A genuine interest in climate action and contributing to a net zero future.
