We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Project Coordinator to join us deliver some of Aotearoa New Zealand's most important climate-related work with the Climate Change Commission.

The Commission was established by the Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act 2019 ('the Zero Carbon Act'), which amended the Climate Change Response Act 2002 (CCRA).

The Commission plays a key role in developing and implementing clear and stable climate change policies in Aotearoa New Zealand. We do this by providing independent, expert advice to the Government on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change. We also monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals.

Ngā Tūnga | The Role

The Commission’s Programme Management Office (PMO) is looking for a Project Coordinator to join our small and friendly team.

The PMO team supports the planning and monitoring of the Commission’s advice and evidence programmes. Our projects are structured around reports that provide advice and monitor progress on Aotearoa New Zealand’s response to climate change.

This role would suit someone who has prior experience in project management or coordination of advice or business projects, is great at building relationships across the organisation, champions tikanga Māori-led approaches in the workplace, and excels at planning and coordinating

We are exploring how Microsoft Copilot and other AI-enabled tools can improve project delivery. We are looking for someone who can helps us work smarter and evolve project management practices across our work, using technologies and tools appropriately for approved purposes, to streamline planning, automate routine project administration, and support high-quality project reporting and communications.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Planning and coordinating project schedules, milestones and actions
  • Working closely with and supporting Project Directors and project teams
  • Organising and supporting workshops, meetings and external engagement
  • Producing high-quality project documentation
  • Monitoring project budgets, risk and issues
  • Innovating and improving Commission project management practices, through appropriate use of AI for approved purposes, improving tools and templates, and assisting project teams on the use of these.

Recognising Te Ao Māori is a key priority for the Commission. This means we work with the Crown’s Treaty partner and grow our capability and capacity to accurately reflect Māori views and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our work. 

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will have the following

  • Experience coordinating multiple concurrent projects.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven project methodology knowledge (PRINCE2, PMI etc), with relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Understand risk management and quality assurance controls across the project lifecycle.
  • Experience using Microsoft Copilot and AI tools.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft 365 products, including Planner, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Highly effective planning, time and resource management skills in a complex work environment. 
  • Understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te ao Māori and experience engaging with Iwi/Māori.

The likely appointment range for this role is between $78,000 and $98,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
