Director of Country Programmes
Reporting to: Executive Director
Responsibility for: LatAm, China, South Asia and other Asia-Pac Programme teams
The Director of Country Programmes will be responsible for CBI’s market development, and outreach programmes for regional and country-level policy advocacy, which holistically will aim to identify and develop sustainable finance solutions to address climate change at scale in priority regions.
The role will ensure the effective delivery of the Regions’ strategic goals and projects portfolio, providing direction and management input. This will include effectively managing regional/country teams and ensuring consistent development and performance across these teams, linked to the delivery of robust KPIs that support and enable effective delivery.
The Director of Country Programmes will collaborate closely with the Fundraising and Programme Design, Finance and PAL teams to ensure the robust delivery and governance of programmes whilst ensuring financial rigour and optimal use of funds. In additional the Director of Country Programmes will work directly alongside the Director of Climate Services to identify commercial opportunities and generate leads to the Climate Services teams that promote the growth of training, partnerships and our capability building efforts in the regions.
The Director will also be responsible for the financial sustainability of all country/regional programmes by establishing a clear funding strategy and targets and maintaining strong relationships with donors and clients.
The Director will play a critical role in the positioning and branding of the Climate Bonds in global, regional, and country platforms and events by showcasing successes and work programs to feed unto the continuous success and growth of the organisation.
Lastly, as a key member of the SLT, the Director will work with his/her peers to enhance and embed organisational procedures, contributing to the Climate Bonds Initiative's growth and strategy and ensuring alignment of objectives across all teams.
What you'll be doing...

  • Manage Heads of Teams across the regions
  • Oversee project delivery across South Asia, ASEAN, China, Japan and Latin America as well as managing the delivery of projects outside of core regions (e.g. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal etc);
  • Provide strategic guidance to regional teams on
  • technical issues relating to sustainable finance in consultation with the Capability Building team
  • project management and delivery
  • learning & development competencies (e.g. stakeholder relationship management, communication skills, etc)
  • Ensure visibility of country/regional level portfolio of work and ensure governance at all times in conjunction with PAL team across budgets, timelines and resourcing.
  • Drive resourcing needs for the regions, collaborating with other Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members to ensure adequate workforce planning that enables the robust delivery projects and programmes. This will also include working closely with core operational teams: Finance, People & Culture and Programmes & Projects to ensure operational success of the project;
  • Consciously contribute to the creation of a workplace culture that is consistent with CBI's and that emphasises CBI's mission, vision, values and behaviours, positioning and Branding
  • Represent CBI in different meetings and events, with sound technical expertise and communication skills. This could include reviewing reports and other relevant blogs and articles, participating in webinar and events, including the delivery of presentations on green and transition finance and other sustainable finance market developments.
  • Represent CBI in media engagements as needed, particularly regarding sustainable finance developments internationally in key regions. Stakeholder Engagement
  • Manage and engage with key external stakeholders, particularly investors, government officials, donors and partner organisations.
  • Regularly engage internally with other teams, to ensure effective programme delivery and good communication between teams (e.g. HQ and regions) and across relevant programme matrix structures. Build strong relationships with funders supporting the work of the regional teams and support team members in the development of proposals for additional funding
  • Provide feedback and insights to policy, market, taxonomy, transition certification team on relevant regional market development aspects policy and regulatory developments in each region and market development intelligence.

Requirements
What you'll need...

  • At least 10+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working in international environments, engaging with different stakeholder groups and across different time zones.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills. Proven track record in people management and experience in managing larger teams an asset.
  • Good organisational and project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Experience in managing large and diverse international project portfolios is desirable.
  • Fluency in English; other languages a plus
