Volunteer Advisor - LLM Engineer for Climate Tech & Open Data

Climate Accountability API is a Berlin-based climate tech nonprofit focused on building tools that make corporate environmental impact more transparent and understandable. We are among the leading providers of real-time data on global warming and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, serving around 80,000 software applications at no cost.
We recently won the national competition for the E.ON Foundation’s European Climate Fund, securing a €10,000 prize. These funds are supporting the development of our prototype: a suite of software tools designed to help the public understand the environmental impact of companies operating in the European Union and worldwide. Our goal is to help shift attention and resources away from carbon-intensive businesses and toward greener alternatives, accelerating the transition to a more sustainable future.
We are looking for a volunteer advisor with experience in LLMs and applied AI to support the development of an open, collaborative ESG platform. You will help shape the next generation of AI-powered tools for identifying corporate transparency and sustainability.
- Advise on the design and implementation of LLM-powered features for our ESG platform.
- Help us explore open-source tools such as Ollama, LlamaIndex, Llama, Qwen, LangChain, RAG, and related AI infrastructure.
- Support strategies for extracting ESG information from company websites, annual reports, and other public sources.
- Contribute guidance on data extraction, structuring, evaluation, and retrieval workflows.
- Review prompt design, model testing, and performance improvements.
- Help shape a mission-driven product with real-world climate and ESG impact.
- Data engineering experience is a plus.
- Proven experience or strong familiarity with LLMs and AI tools.
- Practical experience with Python and software development.
- Comfort working in a collaborative, fast-moving, early-stage environment.
- Familiarity with the climate or ESG ecosystem.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to contribute ideas and guidance.
- €80/month allowance for transportation, internet and other expenses.
