We are an economic regulator accelerating carbon abatement for Australia. We do this by administering Australian Government schemes to measure, manage, reduce and offset carbon emissions in Australia.

Our role is determined by climate change law. We administer schemes that contribute to the Australian Government climate target of reducing emissions to 43% below 2005 levels by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050.

About the Role

The AI Technical Team is seeking to fill a Senior AI Technical Officer role within the AI Business Unit.

Working under limited direction, you will contribute to the design, development, deployment, and optimisation of AI solutions, ensuring they align with enterprise architecture and data governance frameworks. You will provide technical expertise to pilot programs, coordinate logistics, and prepare user documentation to support successful delivery.

This role involves building and leading small-scale AI solutions, including agents developed with Microsoft Copilot Studio, while fostering collaboration with senior executives, technical specialists, policy makers, and external partners. You will deliver training and support communities of practice to strengthen AI literacy across the workforce, and assist in developing use cases through business analysis and stakeholder engagement.

The position requires sound judgement in managing risks, driving innovation, and ensuring AI systems are secure, scalable, and sustainable. You will support the AI Technical Manager in coaching staff, managing performance, and guiding teams through change. You will also contribute to strategic direction, ensuring the Agency remains adaptive, innovative, and confident in its ethical use of AI technologies.
