The Clean Energy Regulator

We are an economic regulator accelerating carbon abatement for Australia. We do this by administering Australian Government schemes to measure, manage, reduce and offset carbon emissions in Australia.


Our role is determined by climate change law. We administer schemes that contribute to theAustralian Government climate target of reducing emissions to 43% below 2005 levels by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050.

About the Opportunities

The agency is undergoing a period of significant change and growth, with new responsibilities and expanded scope of schemes, such as the Cheaper Home Batteries initiative, Guarantee of Origin scheme and the Nature Repair Market. The agency has also been appointed as the preferred regulator for distributed energy products, also known as consumer energy resources.


With a variety of roles on offer we are searching for candidates who can demonstrate capability in a variety of different areas.

There are current, immediate vacancies available working within the consumer energy national technical regulator as well as further anticipated vacancies as the national framework is developed and implementation commences. The availability of roles will be staggered as the framework matures and subject to the passage of the related legislation.


The merit pool from this process may also be used to fill roles within the Renewable Energy Target scheme and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme.


As an APS Level 6 you will be expected to undertake tasks that are complex to complex in nature and operate under limited direction with autonomy and accountability. You will be capable of managing your own workflow, using your initiative and judgement. Many roles require contact with stakeholders, and you will be expected to be able to communicate clearly and provide complex advice. You may also have leadership and management responsibilities, including setting priorities and managing workflows.


We are seeking candidates who demonstrate some of or all our core capabilities:

In addition to these core capabilities, you will also have some of or all the following personal attributes:

  • Takes a stewardship mindset, considering longer term impacts
  • Resilient and delivery focused in fast paced, high change environments


Tertiary qualifications are not required for these roles, however qualifications in or progress towards the following would be advantageous:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Any STEM related discipline
  • Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Public Policy or Government
