POSITION: Communications Manager, U.S. Policy

LOCATION: Flexible within the United States with a preference for Washington, D.C., area.

REPORTS TO: Communications Director, U.S.

PURPOSE: Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a global nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change through policy advocacy, thought leadership, and private sector engagement. We seek a skilled and experienced policy communications professional to provide communications support to our U.S. policy and program teams, as well as to Clean Air Task Force Action (CATF Action), a 501(c)4 organization that conducts political advocacy to advance pragmatic U.S. climate policy at the state and federal level. The ideal candidate will have managed communications in a fast-paced, mission-driven advocacy organization and excel at both rapid response communications and proactive policy communications campaigns, with an understanding of energy advocacy and an interest in climate solutions. They will have expertise working with communications and public affairs firms on advocacy campaigns, and in writing and editing op-eds, blogs, press releases, statements, pitches, campaign materials and social media content on tight deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write and edit persuasive, accurate, and on-message communications materials to advance CATF and CATF Action's policy and technology advocacy.
  • Support strategic communications and messaging development for CATF and CATF Action, working in conjunction with the Communications Director, U.S., various program experts, and with public affairs and communications consultants.
  • Devise and execute outreach plans for select CATF and CATF Action reports, white papers, and campaigns.
  • Expand CATF's media relations capacity by cultivating and enhancing relationships with target climate, energy, and policy reporters.
  • Serve as primary communications and marketing support for CATF Action, writing and managing web content, developing branded materials, and supporting the implementation and coordination of CATF Action campaigns.
  • Assist with CATF Action digital media and email marketing efforts as needed.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least five (5) years experience in communications, public affairs, or political campaigns, preferably in climate and energy advocacy
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience securing top tier media coverage. Active relationships with U.S. climate, energy, and policy reporters preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong communications skills
  • Excellent judgment
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and projects
  • Passion for CATF's mission to commercialize critical carbon-free technologies to decarbonize the global energy system by mid-century

TERMS & COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time position. CATF offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience.

Salary range: $ 80,000 - $ 110,000
