I. BACKGROUND

Clean Air Asia is an international non-governmental organization leading the regional mission for better air quality, and healthier, more livable cities throughout Asia. Our mission is to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in Asia and contribute to the development of a more sustainable, equitable and healthier region. We empower governments and cities by inspiring action and focusing efforts on the planning and implementation of solutions at scale, fostering regional cooperation to address issues of mutual concern, and ensuring the integration of air quality management across sectors and institutions. Our work focuses on implementing solutions that reduce air pollution, its detrimental health impacts and mitigate the climate crisis. We do so by providing policy guidance, building capacity, and making a compelling case for action among stakeholders at city, national, and regional levels. Since 2008, we have been a United Nations-recognized partnership comprised of more than 250 organizations in Asia and internationally, with six Country Networks (Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam). Our headquarters are in Manila, Philippines, and we have offices in Beijing, China, and New Delhi, India.

We are currently recruiting for a Research Assistant on a project-based, full-time, consultancy contract to join our dynamic team at Clean Air Asia in Manila, Philippines. We are looking for someone with demonstrated skills in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, research, and oral and written communication.

Ii. Job Purpose

The Research Assistant will provide technical, research, and coordination support in implementing air pollution reduction and climate change mitigation projects through effective waste management. The Research Assistant will assist in collecting and analyzing data, reviewing relevant literature, preparing technical reports and presentations, and coordinating project activities and communications.

Iii. Responsibilities And Scope Of Work

Under the direct supervision of the Air Quality Specialist, the Research Assistant will provide technical, research, and coordination support for the implementation of air pollution reduction and climate change mitigation projects through effective waste management. The Researcher’s key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Research, data organization, analysis, and synthesis
    • Support research, data gathering, reviewing, compiling, and analysis of relevant data, national and international policies, regulatory frameworks, guidelines, and programs related to air quality, waste management, and climate action.
  • Project coordination and monitoring
    • Support project coordination and liaising within the Clean Air Asia project team, the project’s technical experts and consultants, national and regional partners, and other relavant stakeholders.
    • Support monitoring of project progress in line with the project workplan, ensuring that activities, deliverables, and resources utilization are on track. This includes updating the workplan and preparing progress reports.
  • Stakeholder engagement
    • Participate and contribute ideas in discussions, meetings, webinars, workshops, and other related events and activities with project stakeholders.
  • Documentation and report writing
    • Support the Clean Air Asia project team in drafting, completing, and finalizing related project narrative and technical reports.
    • Document meeting proceedings and other project-related activities, including pre- and post-activity engagements such as workshop and event reports.
Iv. Eligibility Requirements And Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or other related fields with strong data management and analysis skills
  • Relevant work experience in environmental management projects, preferably related to air quality or waste management research
  • Experience in supporting project development, research activities, or stakeholder engagement, preferably in complex, multi-stakeholder environments involving government agencies, sectoral partners, and community organizations
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders including government agencies, sectoral partners, and community organizations
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites for field activities if required

V. DURATION, REMUNERATION And OTHER BENEFITS

The Research Assistant (Consultant) will be appointed for six months under a full-time, fixed-term consultancy contract, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of project funding. The remuneration is competitive but may vary subject to the candidate’s professional qualifications and work experience.
