Environmental Analyst ( 5159 )

 

Salary: Up to £32,000 subject to experience 

Contract Type: Full Time Permanent 

Security Level: BPSS 

Visa Restrictions: This position does not currently offer visa sponsorship. 

Location: London / Hybrid: expectation of at least 2 days in office per week

The Role 

 

Deliver high-quality technical analysis and reporting across aviation environmental issues, supporting evidence-based policy, regulatory and strategic decision-making across the CAA. The Environmental Analyst will analyse a range of aviation environmental data in relation to aviation noise, greenhouse gas emissions, local air quality, and climate adaptation. You will provide concise and accurate information for use by the CAA and Government in the development of environmental reports and public policy.

 

The job may require some travel to conferences and other events. 

 

 

Core Accountabilities

  • Produce robust, well-documented quantitative and qualitative analysis to support CAA publications and advice, including core outputs such as the Aviation Environmental Review and wider research on aviation noise, air quality, and climate adaptation. 

  • Undertake original numerical and textual analyses as required and be responsible for accuracy and clear documentation.

  • Contribute to the modernisation of analytical systems, tools and methodologies used in the CAA, improving efficiency, data quality and analytical consistency across our sustainability-related work. 

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to strengthen data quality, controls and reporting processes that underpin sustainability analysis and regulatory insight. 

  • Build and maintain expertise in environmental impacts, practices, and analytical techniques relevant to aviation sustainability, applying this knowledge to improve the quality and relevance of CAA analysis. 

  • Where required, support effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including industry and Government, by providing clear, evidence-based analysis and responding constructively to technical challenge. 

  • Demonstrate CAA values through effective time management, constructive collaboration, and commitment to personal development and the professional growth of colleagues. 

 

 

About You

 

Essential Criteria 

  • Strong analytical and data management skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 

  • Demonstrable knowledge of statistical analysis and presentation, with experience using charts and data visualisation tools. 

  • Able to collaborate and communicate confidently, both verbally and through written material. 

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and able to manage multiple priorities. 

  • Able to adapt appropriately and work confidently at all levels, with practical experience of working collaboratively across internal and external multi-disciplinary groups. 

  • Relevant academic or professional experience in data analysis, preferably in the field of environmental science.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of applying this knowledge in an Aviation, Aerospace or regulatory setting. 

  • Experience using analytical tools including R, VBA, C#, and Power BI. 

 

 

Additional Security Information: For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. Relocation & Property: The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational, and environmental considerations. We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers. We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site, and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028.
