Sustainability Communications Officer
The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. City of Port Phillip has zero tolerance for child abuse and is a committed Child Safe organisation.
About The Role
An environmentally sustainable and resilient City’ is one of six strategic directions in our Plan for Port Phillip. Council is recruiting this role to join a team of highly skilled professionals who are passionate about environmental sustainability and experts in their field.
As an experienced communications practitioner with a desire to drive sustainable outcomes, you will use your skills to engage with the community to act on climate change, minimise their environmental impact and build resilience.
This role delivers sustainability related communications to support programs, projects and initiatives in collaboration with other Council departments, community members and businesses. You will also help Council to embed a culture of sustainable practice across the organisation.

- Salary Range Band 6 $99,631 to $108,597 pro-rata plus 12% Super
- Part time Permanent Role, 0.6 EFT (3 days per week)
- Located at St Kilda Town Hall with flexible working arrangements possible

Key Duties
- Develop content to promote Council’s sustainability initiatives and projects across all communication platforms and channels, ensuring a high standard
- Support the delivery of effective communications, engagement, education and networks within our community, including businesses and residents, to promote sustainable practices
- Develop and implement communications plans and support campaign delivery for sustainability projects
- Identify and develop opportunities to promote the strategic initiatives of the department, including encouraging active transport in Port Phillip, in collaboration with officers in the City Planning & Sustainability department.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and networks including other local government representatives, funding bodies and partners, community groups, forums and other stakeholders, to support the delivery of Council’s sustainability initiatives.
- Actively contribute to a positive team and organisational culture with a focus on customer service, value for the community and embedding sustainable outcomes.
- Significant knowledge and experience in developing and delivering communications
- Tertiary degree in communications, sustainability, environmental science, or similar discipline
- Local Government experience will be highly valued
