General Description
The City of Madison is looking to hire a Sustainability Program Coordinator
The City of Madison's Sustainability and Resilience Program is a leader for sustainability, climate action, and environmental justice work. The Program's aims include:
- reaching the City's goal of 100% renewable energy and net zero carbon emissions for City operations by 2030 and community-wide by 2050;
- improving the City's resilience to the direct and indirect impacts of climate change; and
- reducing the City's overall environmental impact, all while centering equity and environmental justice.
The Sustainability Program Coordinator is a key team member responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring of initiatives and projects to advance these ambitious sustainability, climate, and equity aims. This position will work closely with Sustainability and Resilience Program staff, City elected leadership, City agencies, utilities, community members, and organizations. They are a champion for integrating sustainability, climate, and resilience into City programming, policy, and planning.

Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years experience in applying the following:
- Best practices in leading successful programs and facilitating active engagement with interested parties.
- Sustainability principles and practices incorporating renewable energy, decarbonization, energy efficiency, climate change, or environment justice.
- Data analysis and data communications with a wide range of parties of interest.
- Promotional and public relations, theories, techniques and practices.
Two (2) years experience in applying the following:
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices in outreach, planning, policies, or initiatives.
- Computers and ability to use computer software applicable to the duties of the position, include Microsoft Office.
OR
- Three (3) years of professional program management, policy development, data analysis, engineering or coordination experience focused on climate change mitigation or resilience, building science, building performance, energy, or sustainability principles or a related area. AND
- Bachelor's degree.
- Certification in climate change mitigation or resilience, building energy management or sustainability, building science, engineering, architecture, sustainability, public policy, urban planning, environmental studies or analysis, environmental justice or a related area can substitute for one (1) year of work experience.
- A Master's degree with a focus on climate change mitigation or resilience, urban planning, engineering, architecture, public policy, public administration, environmental and/or sustainability issues, ecology, energy policy, or related field can substitute for two (2) years of work experience.
**Certification and Master's degree CANNOT be combined to substitute for all the work experience.**
