The Natural Areas Conservation Unit plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing the Gold Coast's unique natural environment. As part of the Environment, Heritage and Resilience Department, our team manages a diverse network of conservation areas, delivers nature-based recreation opportunities, improves biodiversity outcomes, and contributes to city greening initiatives that enhance the Gold Coast way of life.
About The Role
As a Natural Areas Restoration Officer, you will lead the planning, delivery and monitoring of ecological restoration projects across the City's extensive conservation estate. Managing a diverse portfolio of restoration initiatives, you'll oversee both internal bush regeneration teams and specialist contractors to deliver on-ground environmental outcomes.
In This Role You Will
- Manage ecological restoration projects from scoping and budgeting through to delivery and evaluation.
- Lead and support two direct reports while overseeing bush regeneration activities across multiple sites.
- Coordinate contractors, budgets, procurement processes and project governance requirements.
- Design restoration solutions that consider ecological succession, fire management and long-term ecosystem resilience.
- Monitor project outcomes using environmental management principles, GIS mapping and database systems.
- Build strong relationships with community stakeholders, contractors and internal partners.
- Support community engagement initiatives including Landcare and citizen science programs.
We're seeking a passionate environmental professional with strong project management capabilities and experience delivering ecological restoration or natural area management programs. You will be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with practical on-ground delivery and have a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders.
You Will Bring
- A degree in Environmental Science or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- Experience managing environmental, conservation or ecological restoration projects.
- The ability to lead and develop small teams while coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Experience managing budgets, contractors and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of ecological restoration principles, conservation land management and environmental monitoring.
- A current unrestricted Class C Driver Licence
