Ready to use your data expertise to help shape a climate-resilient future? The City of Edmonton is looking for a visionary and technical professional to step into the role of Climate Change Analyst within our Environment and Climate Resilience section.

As a Climate Change Analyst, you will lead research, data collection, complex modelling, and advanced data visualization to evaluate environmental and climate change impacts across corporate and community landscapes. You will design corporate performance metrics, manage dynamic data management platforms, and serve as a technical advisor to support evidence-based municipal decisions. This role balances rigorous analytical systems engineering with strategic storytelling to guide the city's long-term climate adaptation strategies.

What will you do?

  • Lead all aspects of research, data collection, climate modelling, analysis, visualization, and strategic reporting on environmental and climate change priorities
  • Research, develop, and implement corporate and community performance measures and indicators focused on climate adaptation and environmental resilience
  • Design, document, and evaluate dynamic data management architectures to integrate new datasets efficiently while maintaining data standardization, quality control, and integrity
  • Formulate quantitative and qualitative climate change vulnerability assessments, risk profiles, and scenario planning methodologies
  • Author comprehensive briefing documents, Council reports, and capital/operating budgeting attachments derived from historical, current, and projected climate trends
  • Advise senior leadership and City Council on critical climate-related matters to directly support municipal policy development
  • Construct automated and streamlined analysis pipelines by collaborating with various internal groups and cross-departmental teams
  • Deliver basic training and end-user educational materials to enhance organizational awareness and utility of climate analytics tools
  • Oversee and project-manage analytical initiatives to verify strict alignment with overarching corporate environmental policies


Qualifications:

  • University degree (or Master's) in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology, Economics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related practical experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, or environmental research fields


Assets:

  • Specialized training or certifications in project management, business analytics, database development, strategic planning, or change management frameworks


Skills required for success:

  • Mastered proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Google Suite applications, and SQL relational database querying
  • Advanced mathematical capabilities coupled with expertise in complex data mining, data cleaning, and statistical interpretation
  • Practical familiarity with environmental data structures, climate modeling software, and metric design systems
  • Knowledge of local, regional, national, and global climate resilience and mitigation issues
  • Project management capability to deliver analytical results punctually and within defined scopes
  • Precision and meticulous attention to detail to ensure data accuracy while navigating high volumes of diverse information
  • Strategic presentation and technical report-writing competence to communicate complex scientific insights clearly
  • Flexibility and problem-solving agility to navigate data gaps, shifting timelines, and competing project priorities
  • Active collaboration and relationship-building competencies to facilitate cross-functional initiatives and foster alignment

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This role works primarily in an indoor setting
  • This role requires completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, and lifting items up to 10 lbs requiring physical stamina and resilience

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months

Hours of Work: 40 hours weekly

Salary Range: $48.774 - $61.628 (Hourly); $101,840.11 - $128,679.26 (Annually)
